keeping a 3/4 ton as 3/4 ton

I have a '66 C20 that I would kind of like to keep as a 3/4 ton, but would like to eventually have front disk brakes and power steering. My rear axle is an Eaton HO 52 with 4.10 gearing. They can be very expensive to repair, but mine is OK so far as I know. I don't even have it on the road yet, hopefully in the next few weeks. Basically I want to end up using it as work truck sometimes and want to have something a little different., also want to lower it mildly, like 3 inches in front and 4 in back.
Can I just buy an entire front crossmember from a 73-87 and slide it under my truck like you can do with the C10's? Can I do the same with a rear axle? I know the rear will have to have the axle perches replaced to work with the trailing arm suspension and new ones welded on. I would also like to keep 8 lug, but can change to 6 lug if I have to.
I struggled in the beginning with what direction to go with this truck, but thinkI I finally figured out what I want. I have done a lot of reading about this, and I am sure I have read the answer before, but just can't remember what I read.
