What front suspension under a '61 Apache 40 flat bed?
I found a '61 Apache 40 at the junkyard... it's been there a long time, but the truck is in pretty good shape... The back half of the frame is still covered in black paint... the rust is just creeping around the corners, joints, etc. For a 50 year old truck, the frame should be a uniform coat of rust.
The wheels (not split rims!) are in excellent shape. The cab is pretty decent. The hood is pretty decent (I may buy it). The driver's door is rusted through at the bottom, the driver's front fender is starting to rust where they always do. The passenger side fender and door were hit and need to be replaced. It has a 4spd, but oddly, the clutch pedal is not there. Also has the park brake through the trans tunnel. It's a stake-bed farm truck, with the stake frames still there. I didn't crawl under the front of the truck, but was wondering if it's got a straight axle, or torsion bars with control arms. Never really seen an Apache 40 before. He wants $1,000 for the whole truck, which really doesn't seem unreasonable. I might save some money up by the summer and go get it. -Brad
