If you were looking for a stock/daily look, the 87 would be too wide, but if that last pic is what you are after then yes....take lots of pics and post them along the way! I almost fell over when I read " should I sell the 49 and put something else on the burb" your tugging a few heart strings on this forum with fancy talk like that

Re: 1949 5 window on 1987 4x4 sub will it work

im gonna start something similar in the spring. im transplanting my 79 1 ton axles under my 2 ton 49 chevy and gonna put 38's under and hopefully make it 4x4. the pics are of how far i made it transplanting a "junk cab" by accident onto 79 GMC frame. it had a great stance to it. come to find out it was gonna take way to long to get the cab is usable shape so i found this bad boy for $500 and now im gonna put my 4x4 axles under it and do a cummins motor swap. the only hard part about the swap your wanting is the frame to cab mounting. im not sure what the suburban looks like but to have mine fit good without having holes in floorboard for tranny i had the cab about 8 to 10 in high off the frame. But i say go for it and you can always ask for help with all the knowledge that this site has to offer

Re: 1949 5 window on 1987 4x4 sub will it work

I bought an 88 suburban to use as a donor for my 51. Im keeping my original frame and stealing things like 350/700r4, brake pedal assymbly, booster/master etc... I will try to part out some of the other stuff and scrap the rest. Should come out close to even for what i paid.

The track width of a 2x4 88 suburban is 63" wms to wms (rear axle). About 2' too wide to use on a normal height truck.

Like newfischer said, no reason it shouldn't work as long as you're ok with the jacked up, tires sticking way out look. In that last pic you posted those fender openings have been trimmed pretty substantially also.

Personally, i am not a fan of these trucks as 4x4s but opinions are like ....

Im not sure if the fenders have been cut. my 2 ton truck has 22.5 rims under the front and they arent cutout and they fit fine. but with him only having a 3/4ton truck he will have to have a big lift kit or cut them out

Even with a inset ralley wheel i dont want it set real high i think that takes from the look i want i have access to a 1 ton cab but it has been hiding from the scrap people for years in the weeds and a few people have used it for target practice......... Only rear window broke .

Re: 1949 5 window on 1987 4x4 burb will it work

The 49 frame is 2 inches wider than the 87 so i am hopeing that inch on each side will set the frame right on the mount or whats left of them lol

Great insperation pics midgets50

Re: 1949 5 window on 1987 4x4 sub will it work

I'm not a big fan of taking a pretty complete and decent looking truck and hacking it up to make a 4x4 out of it but if you do it right it should look pretty good.

I'm more inclined to like what Midget 50 is doing with the cab off the 2 ton because once those quit running they usually have to hide from the scrappers around here or get crushed. I've got the 1-1/2 ton twin to that green 2 ton that I still haven't figured out what I need to do with.

71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: 1949 5 window on 1987 4x4 sub will it work

I have been looking at this swap for a different make 1 1/2 ton cab that I have. With the 2 ton front fenders I think you'll be good.

The wheel base is 4" longer than a 3/4 ton AD. But with how goofy the wheels were placed in the openings it might be perfect.

I thought long and hard about taring the 49 apart there it sat and sat and sat i could get in it drive it up the street and back but couldnt go over 40 mph without it shaking my brains out lol
Then i thought about selling it and using the money to find something else to use but it seems there is no one that wants the 3/4 ton trucks...........

I AM OPEN TO OFFERS ON It

Re: 1949 5 window on 1987 4x4 sub will it work

From what ive seen happen with the swap is the body sometimes sits pretty high on the frame to clear the transmission, makes it look like a bad body lift. Thats how my truck kind of is. If i could redo it i think i would just cut the floor up in order to get the body lower on the frame.
