Staggered 18/20 or full 20s

Hello all, we are in the midst of my 70 swb build and I need to get my wheels ordered. My truck will have a 2/4 drop, 13" baers all around and porterbuilt control arms (1" forward). I kept the 6 lugs so that narrows my choices a bit.
Ok for the question, any pro/cons of a 18/20 stagger versus full 20s. I do not want a big rake.
Because we all like pics

If you do not want a big rake and you want to have the same sidewall front and rear then you should use 20s all the way around. Just my opinion, you should defintely study on it and choose what you like best. Nice start on your build, have fun with it!

Re: Staggered 18/20 or full 20s

20's all around! I really don't like 18's on the front. With the front and rear wheel openings on being the same size, I never thought 18's looked right with 20's in the rear.

Im with Hart Rod on this one. These old trucks just look way better with a little sidewall to me. They function way better as well, but if function means little, go with what you think looks best to you.

Re: Staggered 18/20 or full 20s

20" wheels all the way around.

I looked high and low for a nice looking 6 lug 20" wheel and didn't find one that I liked and I will be doing a 5 lug conversion for this reason.

Re: Staggered 18/20 or full 20s

If don't want a lot of rake, then you're going to have to choose between different sidewall widths, or do at least a 2/5 drop. Then your gaps are going to be different.

Re: Staggered 18/20 or full 20s

I would go 20's all the way around, but I do have to say, I think you might have a little more "air" between the fenders and the wheels.

Here's a shot of my '69 with a 4.5/6" 6-lug disc brake upgrade that is running 20's all the way around for reference. And yes... those are 5-spoke BS SL Vintecs with a 6-lug setup. IMO.... I'd go lower on the drop but that's all personal preference.

You'll be looking at 2-2.5" higher all the way around. Here's the specs from my setup:

Before the drop:
Driver's Side Front: 33 1/2"
Driver's Side Rear: 33"
Passenger Side Front: 33 1/4"
Passenger Side Rear: 32 7/8"

After the drop w/ 15" ralleys:
Driver's Side Front: 28"
Driver's Side Rear: 29"
Passenger Side Front: 28 1/4"
Passenger Side Rear: 28 3/4"

After the drop w/ 20's:
Driver's Side Front: 28 7/16""
Driver's Side Rear: 29 5/16"
Passenger Side Front: 28 1/2"
Passenger Side Rear: 29 5/16"

I agree with nate. If you are going to run 20's I think at least a 4/6 drop would look best.

Re: Staggered 18/20 or full 20s

Looks is all personal preferance, but one advantage of going with the same size front and rear is that you can rotate your tires front to back easily (without dismounting the tire). Just some food for thought.

This is a possibility, but not necessarily a fact. These trucks have goofy track widths front to rear so to achieve a desired look the wheel offsets may be different.

Re: Staggered 18/20 or full 20s

20/20 all the way unless you put some meat on there like Rob hartrod, love that truck! low profile tires on 18s look too small up front in my opinion.
