OEM finish for door striker plates: anyone tried black oxidizer? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

My door strikers are blasted and need to be refinished. Paint isn't OEM and will ultimately fail. Has anyone tried a black oxidizer (like Presto Black) to get that OEM finish? I've never oxidized metal so have no idea.

I used the Eastwood product. You dont brush it on, you dip it for about 60 seconds. Sure worked out standing on my stuff. Looks factory and seems just as durable.

Would that be good for doing brake hardware parts?

depends which brake hardware parts you're talkin about - i would say it should not be used on the "hardware kit" parts - springs, e-brake lever, retainers, etc. But if you mean stuff like backing plates, etc - parts that have no mechanical function other than to "be there" - I'd say it would be good for that. I personally don't like to paint things like backing plates inside the drum etc because it will just melt off and flake into the works. So I normally leave them with a natural finish - but the above process might be a good one in lieu of paint for things like that.
