Torque Converter hitting crankshaft

I am trying to mate a TH350 from a K-5 to an engine (305) from a 83 Camaro. I got the proper 153 tooth flexplate bolted up, with the TH350 bolt holes. I went to mate the 2 and nub on the torque converter is hitting the end of the crankshaft, not allowing the 2 to mate. Is it that I need a different torque converter or is it that I need an adaptor of some sort. I was of the understanding the engine and tranmission should go right together. Any help would be greatly apprecaited.

turn the tq converter a little and it should push in, kinda spin it a little

Sean, there are two notches on the converter. they mat to the front pump drive. It sounds like the converter isn't seated. Rotate the converter with light pressure on it pushing the converter into the transmission. It should finally seat with about an inch to inch and a half back past the edge of the bellhousing. Dont force it. If you do and the converter isnt seated you will destroy the front pump. Good luck.

When the convertor is seated properly you cant fit your hand in behind it.

Was the engine by chance out of a standard tranny car? Is there a pilot bushing still in it?

It sounds like it's not seated all the way like the other posters said. If you have an engine lift, the easiest way I've found to seat it is run a few bolts through the trans housing and connect them to a chain. Lift the chain giving yourself plenty of room to get the converter in and with the transmission upright just place the converter over top and slowly wiggle it into place. IIRC there will be 3 "clicks" until it's in position. Make sure you lubed the front seal with ATF before you touch anything...
