Tail shaft vs yoke

Tell me;
Does anyone know how much of the yoke has to reach inside the tail shaft to get a good seal and contact enough of the actual tail shaft to get good surface area contact and good torque?
Note: I am in need of this information as it is compared to a,
350 V8, mounted in the front mounted position, with a th350, matched with a 1972 dif. With 3.73gears...

from what I've read there should be less than an inch of the yoke exposed, so bottom the yoke out and pull it out to 3/4 or an inch exposed and you should be good

Ideally, the yoke should be bottomed, then pulled out 3/4 of an inch. Again, that's ideal and what my driveshaft shop uses for building one. You'll still be fine if it's 1/2 or even up near 1 inch though.

Okay thx for the replays.

I need a longer shaft, then. Mine is pulled out approx. 2 or more inches from the tail shaft...
It sounds like I need one at least 1.25" longer to get me closer to the tail piece.

No one is going to be able to give any recommendation on a donor driveshaft without knowing what length transmission your th350 (there are 3 different length th350 trans) is and whether your truck is long or short wheelbase.

I noted in the posting that the engine is in the forward mounting location? Why not move it back to where a V8 normally mounts and solve the problem?

Are you running a 2 piece drive shaft? If so, then the engagement of the yoke isn't nearly as critical,as long as you have about 75% engaged, because you have no risk of it bottoming out during suspension compression.

Well I am hearing another issue, it's the rear end!
1. About how much does it cost to rebuild a 72' rear end?
2. Can't you buy a kit for the rear end and use a more modern one, say from a later 75'-80's? I thought there was a kit you can buy and weld it on to match our coil rear??

Oh and it's a LWB w/ what was called a short tail th350 trans?
One piece drive shaft is what I am running currently.

I had not been driving it much due to no exhaust! But now I have exhaust and I can hear the little noises! Thx
