Re: Engine Bay clean up?

The wires could be bundled up zip tied together and you can put that black plastic stuff on them, I can tell if that's a fuel canister beside your washer fluid but if it is that can go. You can get an A/C delete kit if that doesn't work.

Yes that should be it they have ones with holes in them to for whatever you want to stick through there I believe but if the A/C just needs a recharge I would keep it.

Re: Engine Bay clean up?

I would start by removing the dirt. You'd be surprised how good the engine bay looks even with all the wires and hoses when it's clean and all the plastic and hoses are nice and dark black.

Re: Engine Bay clean up?

Simple green is a very good degreaser to mix with warm water.

Re: Engine Bay clean up?

You can get rid of your vacuum canister (if laws allow) along with the rest of the emissions crap and clean up the vacuum hoses. I believe that is a cruise control on your inner fender? I could be wrong though.

Re: Engine Bay clean up?

That porterbuilt piece will delete both the heat and ac if you want to have heat only a kit like http://www.acdelete.com/pages/73-90_Truck.htm Pretty much everything else you need unless you don't want cruise control. You can buy metal tube style tanks to replace the coolant over flow and windshield washer tank.

Re: Engine Bay clean up?

The one with cable running to it is CRUISE CONTROL. if you remove that, you will need to replace the cable with one that bypasses the vacuum diaphragm. The other is a vacuum canister . If your emissions stuff is already gone, you can remove that. I recommend getting one from a newer truck that is just the for the fuel vent. Mines and 87 and has one, just to give you an idea of what years to look for.

Re: Engine Bay clean up?

The fuel line, you can bend that back and out it back behind the alternator where it was originally. The wires, as was said already, bundle them up or run them in a cleaner route, even tie them down.

Re: Engine Bay clean up?

What are your long term goals with the truck?
Daily driver ? strip? street and strip?
That would give you an idea of what to get rid of.

If its gonna be a daily driver, then I would just clean and tidy. Things like ac and defrosters are nice. Wives and kids may not understand why these things are gone when they are uncomfortable.

If strictly a racer then you don't need ac, heater, power steering, windshield wipers, wheel wells

Re: Engine Bay clean up?

Before I offer advice, let me ask a question. Is this your daily driver? How long can it be down for the detail work. What kind of tools do you have access to? Do you have apaint gun and compressor?

Answer these questions, and I will offer more advice.

Re: Engine Bay clean up?

Carb cleaner can blast off alot of grease off the intake. A K&n filter will look way better than that stained sock that's on there now

Re: Engine Bay clean up?

Just a one piece speedo cable. I don't think the two ends will connect just removing the vacuum diaphragm .... But your speedo will be off as well. You may need ot change the gears. The one I did years back, it threw the speedo off.
