Nasty Wreck.....need info
I had a wreck last week.......someone hit me from behind and I slammed right into a truck with a ball in his hitch sticking strait out about a foot and a half.....So now my bumper is in a V-shape twards one side and has major frame damage on the front....the guy who hit me drove off without stopping and my insurance wanted to total it out and I said hell no......so now I got 400 dollars from them and that's it......Now here's my question.....I'm not sure but the body does not look to be damaged at all......it looks like it's just off allignment because of frame damage.....or am I wrong that something else got bent....I do plan on changing over to a short bedframe but what should I look for as I take her apart?

Uh....I think you pretty much know what's going on. If you can see the frame damage, and it's nasty, toss the frame and get a short one, unless you're hell-bent on keeping an original numbers matching truck. Sounds like you aren't. From what I've seen, short 2WD frames are everywhere, and you can usually score one for a couple hundred bucks; I towed mine home behind the pickup for $200 with 4 wheels and tires. If you were ambitious, and had a short box ready to throw on, I'd see no problem with doing the swap in a day, and being back on the road. Unbolt the cab, and rad. support and move them onto the new frame as one unit, toss the bed on, run the wiring, and the real tough part, if you want to call it tough, is to drop in the engine and tranny and connect up / bleed out the brake system. My .02 is to get a new frame and build that sucka back up!! I'd also hire the A-Team to go find that a-hole! Seriously, you don't want these guys on your tail!! Keep us posted on what happens.

Slightly off topic here...but dude, you either need a new insurance company...or a better policy. $400 is a slap in the face. I don't care if your truck is a huge steaming pile of ford dung, a running truck is worth more than 4 bills in any state on any day.
