Clunk after lowering...pinion angle shims?

Well I finally got the stance where I want it...ended up with 4.5 in the front & 6 or so in the rear...im not positive on the rear cause a leaf was already taken out before i got the truck & im not sure how much losing a leaf alone drops it...1-2 inches? Flip kit alone was 5 inches & stock shakles. Front was 2.5 spindles & close to a full coil cut off each spring.

So now when driving sometimes on the 1-2 shift only I get a clunk...also occasionally on take off with med acceleration. All clearances are good & absolutely nothing is making contact with anything...I did notice at ride height after lowering that 2 inches of the driveline yoke is showing now so obviously it pulled out some.

Any ideas?

Ha...yeah I guess that helps. It's a 70 c-10 leaf truck, short bed, 1 piece drive line. Here are a couple pics of the truck as of now.

You got something loose,... or something is hitting metal.

Thanks bud...it's my wife's truck & in the process of putting her personality in it! No suspension pics right now, but I can take a couple when I take it out back and put it back on the lift. Absolutely nothing loose or anything hitting metal...of coarse the sound is a metal clunk, but nothing is anywhere close to hitting anything...I c-notched the frame & dabbed up a notch for the crossmember aswell! Nothing is close anymore...this clunk wasn't there before I lowered it...it was there as soon as I drove it the first time being lowered this much.

Sweet truck! Love the stance!
Have you checked the center bearing support?

Thanks! I've had the front springs out 4 times now, lol! I'm finally good with it. I have a 1 piece driveline so no center support.

It's your yoke clunking.
Should be 3/4 inch out only.

Could also be your pinion angle!
Did you C-notch the frame too?

Yeah I C-notched the frame...as far as the pinion angle goes I didn't notice what it was before o lowered it, but now it doesn't look too bad...tail shaft is slightly pointing down & the diff is slightly pointing up, nothing drastic, but who knows maybe its pointing up more than it was! I wasn't sure if guys with leafs were using the wedges to change the angle after lowering? Either way I agree I need to get the yoke back in the tail shaft or further in than 2 inches!

Re: Clunk after lowering...pinion angle shims?

depending on what flip bracket you used it could be letting the housing slide around as well..

I had to throw mine out.. they were to short and caused the housing to rotate when it was loaded/loaded.. ie shifting.. could double check yours.

Make sure your pinion angle is right before you replace your driveshaft. Lowered trucks usually need the pinion to be raised. If the pinion is pointing down too much the yoke will be pulled out of the tranny.
Check your pinion angles with the suspension under compression as it would normally sit on the ground.

Yeah that's how I checked the angle...with 6x6 blocks under the rear tires on the ground. My pinion is slightly up, making a very slight /\ in relation with the drive shaft...looks how it should IMO, or atleast that's how I always try to get my angles to look.

I'll prolly just get a new driveline built anyhow as I usually aim for 1 inch of the yoke being visible...2 is a bit excessive I think.
