negative review on por15
i just used por15s chassis coat black on the rear of my frame today. used their marine clean to degrease everything as instructed, then applied the por15 as directed. basically it just doesnt go on as smooth and nice as they say. they said brush marks would smooth out, well not completely.
i dont think the extra $$ was worth it at all, next time i would just use regular paint. |

The POR-15 paint itself does go on smooth and glossy without any brush strokes showing.
The topcoat ChassisCoat, however, does leave brush marks. I found that out, too, when I was painting the rear of my frame. I decided to only use the ChassisCoat only on those parts of the frame that might see sunlight; top and outside of rail and front frame horns especially. They say the POR-15 will turn color eventually if exposed to sun unless you topcoat with the ChassisCoat or regular paint. SC

I painted the top and bottom of my cab floor, the underside of the bed floor, and the inside of my rocker panels with POR-15. I just wanted a little insurance that the rust wouldn't come back. I also coated the bottom of my cab floor with some spray-on undercoating. It is some tuff stuff and adhere's very well to metal. My truck won't be driven in rain/snow, so the POR-15 should be more than adequate to keep the rust away.

instead of using a brush try using a small roller, Home Depot sells small 3-4" wide rollers that you can use, it might leave more of a powder coat texture, but you definitely wont have any brush strokes, I did the underside of my 48 Buick this way and really like the look. It looks factory, in semi-gloss....I used a competing product though called "zero-rust" you can buy it on the net much cheaper than por15

superchevy,
It does turn color. As a matter of fact, it gets a real dull blackish grey. Really ugly looking. You can paint over it real lightly with some gloss paint and that seems to stay, buut the POR gets real ugly pretty fast.
