Firewall Holes

So I've decided to fill in some of the holes in my swiss cheese firewall. The problem is I don't know which ones to leave. The previous owner had just the bare essentials, no heater or ac. I kind of hate to fill them all just to redrill later, is there any way to identify what to leave alone?

I have always filled all except the steering column and started fresh

i'm with solidaxle, i welded everything closed and cut very few after.
i also shaved the standing seam that joins the firewall to both cowl panels
if your using the stock elements plan accordingly, ie; hood hinges, battery tray, heater, wire harness

I did the same as Orge except I kept the battery box and ground behind it and stock throttle opening in the recess. Wanted a clean slate to start with.

I did the same as all of the above! Ogre made me do it! lol and then you have to remove the ridge too! ha! It was a pain, but worth the effort. Mine is not nearly as good, but it looks good for my level of expertise. After having a blank wall of no holes, I hated to drill anywhere on my firewall! dne'

feel them all in but the brake an clutch an the steering column by that way if u need to add a hole u can redrill in a nice hidden spot an your firewall looks so much better

Yes, You will be much happier when you paint everything and hide the wires down low

My next move is to look at moving the harness down low, I have no idea why it's up high. I'm thinking that I can run most of it between the inner and outer fender walls, anyone have any insight on this?

my rear harness exits next to my steering column right under my ezwire fuse panel.
my front harness is in the grey flex conduit next to my heater hoses.
my engine harness for the ramjet is huge and exits behind my distributor plus 2 wires you see



when i boxed my frame i stuck a straight piece of 1/2'' pvc in the frame that exits out the back for my rear harness
you can see a little white pvc sticking out behind my trans x-member

Hey surf thanks for the pictures on the cab mounts. I have decided to go with ez chassis make life a little more simple hopefully. And glad i ran across this I was debating which holes myself the other night.

Has anyone tried one of THESE firewall covers?

It's a little pricey but for someone who dosn't know how to weld, maybe it's a consideration?

I knew a guy that made his own from sheet metal and it looks fine. Since you cover the interior with sound deadner and carpet (typically) wouldn't this work fine? Do you guys consider it Mickey Mouse?

Thanks Ogre! Just curious is there any reason you ran the front harness down the passenger side? I think I have a Painless harness and it was routed on the drivers side for both front and rear. I only have a few wires for the engine so it should be pretty straight forward.

So everything is welded up and new holes have been cut for the steering column and master cylinder. I'm trying to get ideas on how to run the harness, I like what Ogre did but am wondering what others have done. If I run it low how do I keep it out of sight or protected inside the cab?

Take a look at my build thread, I just finished mine and got most of it out of sight.

You are fortunate if they drilled them. The extra holes on my truck were made with a chisel.
