New 1972 Blazer---Original Ochre Paint
Hey guys. Been cruising this forum for about a year and wanted to post some pics of the blazer I picked up a week ago in Nor cal. This truck is nearly all original with no rust!! Trying to decide which modifications (if any) I shoud make. New paint, lift, etc...Some people say keep the original paint, but it is getting thin in some spots, and it may drive me crazy.
I'm leaning toward keeping it original, and just enjoying driving around topless this summer with my kids.. Blazer is in the shop now getting some minor mechanical work done, in addition to installing new AC unit... I also have a 1970 sb 4x4 that went through a complete restoration about 2 years ago... Appreciate any suggestions...

In my opinion, since you have one that just went thru a complete resto, I would leave the Blazer alone and just enjoy driving it. Hard to find complete originals anymore.

Re: New 1972 Blazer---Original Ochre Paint
The Motor sounds good, but had problems with the carbuerator. I took it to the guy that did my 1970 sb, and he solved the problem right away. Something to do with the choke and causing it to flood out. He's gonna tweak a few more things, and fix a couple of leaks, and it should be good to go...Steering seems smooth, brakes are good...

I really like it the way it is. I wouldn't do anything that couldn't be undone. Drive and enjoy.

Re: New 1972 Blazer---Original Ochre Paint
I know the back end sags a bit. I don't know if that is because of the weight of the top, or just worn out springs...This is my first blazer and I'm pretty fired up!!!!

Re: New 1972 Blazer---Original Ochre Paint
I'm definitely gonna keep it the original color. I actually like the ochre. Will probably enjoy it as is for a year or so, then possibly repaint...

Re: New 1972 Blazer---Original Ochre Paint
I love the ochre color!!! I found my Jimmy in Calif, and am having the same questions to paint or not.... The first day after I received it, I was taking it into town and had a front wheel fall off (loose lugs). The damaged fender is driving me crazy, as I would lean towards leaving it the original paint. If I do repaint, I may have it painted sort of a flat ochre to simulate the 40+ years of sun....

Re: New 1972 Blazer---Original Ochre Paint
I've got a'72, original, same color, too. I don't really like the color, but will keep it as I like the original look. It may kinda grow on you eventually.

Re: New 1972 Blazer---Original Ochre Paint
That is a super nice looking blazer. LEAVE IT ALONE!! It is easy to find a painted modified blazer, super hard/imposible to find one as nice looking and untouched as that.

Re: New 1972 Blazer---Original Ochre Paint
I might have looked at that truck in Placerville???
Does it have a 383 stroker with a manual? The one I looked at in PV had some custom racks in the back and the owner was the old auto shop teacher at Elk Grove High School.
