Engine/trans/rearend combo
I 'm at the point in my build where things are starting to get installed, and want some opinions etc on my powertrain combination. I 'm working with what I already have so please be nice if this doesn't seem to be a good idea.
I've installed a 77 camaro front clip into our 55 TF and put the engine (305 v8) back in along with the 400 auto trans. I have the rear end from the 77 camaro and it looks to be 2.41:1 ratio. Does this sound like it would work as a good setup for our truck? Don't plan on doing and major hauling etc. And I plan on doing a rear axle flip to lower the rear down to match the front end. Thanks for your suggestions. |

Re: Engine/trans/rearend combo
That engine and rear end ratio will be good for gas mileage once you get it up to speed.
It will be a real dog off the line, I didn't know Chevy made a gear ratio that high 2:41-1

Re: Engine/trans/rearend combo
As far as I can tell the "PJ...." code stamped into the rearend is for a 2.41:1 ratio. I want to have a decent amount of pull off the line but not like race ready or anything. Daughters will be driving it part time also. Once it goes through them (my youngest is 12) maybe I'll get to have it as a toy.
Thanks for the replies |

Re: Engine/trans/rearend combo
If that combo came out of the Camaro it should work fine in the truck.
As solidaxel said it may be a little slow off the line but ifnyour not racing it doesn't matter. Kim |
