Need help!!!

I have a 71 C20 350 with hei pretty sure its a conversion because i have to run point to hook plug wires in the distributer for firing order. that currently is giving me a run for my money.... im not sure what is the matter at this point it ran fine then died on me at the gas station i got it back home and replaced the eggnision module, cap, rotar. it started up shut it off started it it up again let it run for a little bit shut it off. went inside came out to start it again and nothing went and got a new coil and test light to see if im getting power to the coil and i am and still nothing its getting fuel and also tryd to get er going with either also nothing.... im at a loss at this point..

not sure what you mean when you say you have to run point on your pug wires. can you take a pic of your motor and dist. may be that will help us see what your set up is like.

First one is Hei second one is points. Notice all the wires shifted one to the left on the cap.For Hei from points

hear is some information i just pick up though

"HEI didn't come standard till 1975, so it has been retrofitted. I for one hate those things, they are more trouble than they are worth, but let's try to fix yours till you can swap it out for a MSD. First, make sure the power wire in is not coming from the fuse panel or the switch, as the HEI must have 12 volts constant. That is a common mistake & will cause intermittent problems. Ideally, it should com from the battery. If that is not the problem, check the switch, as it could be going bad & causing a short."

His is run as the latter. The cap rotor ign module coil plugs wires are all new in the last 2 months. And all but plugs and wires are new again since it quit at the gas station. Then it started and ran fine for a couple minutes. Then shut off started fine. And then 10 minutes later it won't start again. Sorry for jumping in. To clear confusion Joe and I are brothers. Hes currently stationed in Washington state and Im I. Wisconsin. we been trying to do this over the phone. Right now I'm guessing the distributor may be bad. The thought of a jumped timing chain crossed my mind but the motors appears to have been rebuilt recently. And since it was running after a new cap and rotor, which the old new ones were burned up, I'd assume timing chain is fine. As far as actual timing goes its set to 14 initial.

Let's start from the beginning. First, do you have a clean 12v to the BAT terminal on the HEI? The stock ignition with points used a resistor wire to reduce the voltage; that won't work with HEI.

Next, verify the firing order. Make sure the rotor is at #1 on TDC of the compression stroke. Then go through the wires one by one and make sure they are routed to the correct plug.

Re-check the cap. I've had a brand-new cap that was cracked and I couldn't see the crack from the top side. Look for any kind of carbon trails in the cap. Also check the button in the center of the cap. The button and spring have to be there; that's how spark is conducted from the coil to the cap.

Last thing is the module. They can sometimes be bad, even new. Make sure it was installed with the included grease under it.

For what it's worth, I think the HEI is one of the best ignitions available.

might also check that the dist. is not loose, it could slip around on you , could be that when you put gas in that trash was in the bottom of the tank and stopped up the fuel line or filter, just a few things to check...start with the basic stuff. keep us posted.
