Compression Ratio
Guys, got the opportunity to bolt up a 408 LS stroker in a swb checvy c10. Thing is, the the compression ratio of the motor will be 11.5 - 1. I know running premium octane is a must, but what other issues if any, will I run into with this type of compression.

Re: Compression Ratio
11.5 isn't scary high, just higher than average. I'd make sure you ran the good quality premium 93 (not that california 91 trash). If you can't get it or you think you'll still have pinging with all that Texas heat, its pretty easy to build a Methanol setup to spray if you want the insurance. DIY meth kits can be as cheap as $50-75

Re: Compression Ratio
Thanks!! I spoke with the piston manufacturer and their tech department said that a .062 thick head gasket could reduce the compression to 11.3 to 1. I guess every little bit helps.

Re: Compression Ratio
I would not use a thick head gasket to bandaid to lower compression. it may seem like a good idea but there is a reason for the quench to be ideally between .035-.045 or so. increasing this distance increases the possibility of detonation. i would just make sure you have a good cooling system and a good tune and you should be fine. corvettes runs 11.0 or so nowadays and thats OEM stuff so you should be just fine.
