V6 to small block swap
Does anybody know from the factory in the GMCs if the small blocks were mounted in a different location than the v6s? The truck has a big block in it now and the mounts and cross members were all moved forward 3 inches. Would a small block work in that same spot?

Re: V6 to small block swap
the small block will sit fine where the big block sits, just need to space your fan properly, this will allow you to reuse the driveshaft also

I did this swap in my cj7 some years back. the chevy V6 has the same mounting locations as the 350. just shorter in the front from the 350.

Re: V6 to small block swap
Are big blocks and small blocks the same length from the motor mounts to the back of the block?

Re: V6 to small block swap
Read up on them if you get a few minutes. They were big giant engines with gobs of torque. Some of them even came from the factory with plaid valve covers. Seriously. A neat bit of history.

Re: V6 to small block swap
Curious how well the 402 fit in there with it being a 4x4.
By the way, nice truck, i just looked at a pic of it in the show your truck thread. Whats the history of the truck? Does it have PS and PB? There are a handful of us here with 67 GMC 4x4's. I have 2 at the moment- the one in my sig and a super custom with factory tach, buddies, 305v6, and PB. You should just need the smallblock engine stands and you;ll be set. Check out this thread for ID: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=437680

Re: V6 to small block swap
It was very tight in there there was about a 1/4 of an inch between the frame and exhaust manifolds and about a half an inch between the fan and radiator. It has PS and PB along with the rear sliding window buddy buckets and A/C. It was bought it Phoenix Arizona I have all the original paper work protecto plate even the original dealership keychain. I was tryin to find a v6 to put back in but I had a 350 sitting there ready to go. Would like to put one back in one day.

Re: V6 to small block swap
Sounds like a nice truck. Is the rear window full size or small? Is the steering ram assist?
I think I'm going to drop a 351 V6 in mine. I'd like to find a 478 since I think the exterior dimensions are the same.

Re: V6 to small block swap
Yea it has the large rear window I'm not sure if its ram assist or not no SPID. Is there another way to tell? Does anybody know a good place to get the small block mounts for a 67 I tried the ones that were in there and the oil pan is hitting the crossmember I think there old v6 mounts that someone cut holes for the big block because there are other holes on the towers also.

Re: V6 to small block swap
I guess you didn't click on the link I posted about the engine stands. It points out the 67-72 small block stands. I have a spare set I will send for free, just pm me your address.
The ram assist is hard to miss. Heres a pic of mine:
