'67 K10 Front brake upgrade?
I know that there are a lot of brake upgrade kits for 2 wheel drive trucks out there, but it seems that a lot of the 4X4 guys are out of luck in that department. I'm looking to upgrade my front drums to discs on my '67 K10. It has a Dana 44 front axle on it....What I'm wondering is: Will 70-72 front disc brake components (backing plates, calipers, hub/rotors, etc.) from a 4x4 with a dana 44 bolt onto my truck's front axles? If so, what all is going to be needed to do this swap? If not, does anybody know of any brake conversion kits, or parts from other vehicles that will fit my truck?

If you have a closed-knuckle front (if it's stock you do) then you'll have to swap to a 71 or newer axle, preferably 73 and newer. You'll also need to upgrade your master cylinder and proportioning valve for disc. You'll also need new brake hoses to work with the calipers. Look through the posts in the 4x4 forum.

Swapping out you're entire front axle is the absolute easiest way to go. I swapped my closed knuckly drum brake front in my '68 for a Disc brake front out of a '85 Blazer. '73 and new front diffs have a slightly wider spring mount locations but it not noticable and doesn't cause any problems. They also have built in provisions for a steering stabilizer. On '75 and newer fronts diffs, you also get the advantage of 8 degrees of castor. Previous units have 4 degrees. The 8 degrees will offer better handling especially if you have any lift.
