Original '71 4x4 LWB Rear Driveshaft F/S

Removed from my '71 4x4 LWB, original factory rear driveshaft with the
sm465/np205 combo. Replaced the front slip yoke and stub shaft, & balanced couple years ago by PowerDrive in Wichita, Ks. Less than 3,000 miles since. U-joints are good. Had to replace my drive shaft during the conversion swap to 350TH/np205 so this one will no longer work for me. Prefer local pickup but will ship UPS if need be, possibly could deliver near Wichita, Ks. Don't have pics right now but will post tomorrow. $75 complete.

Re: Original '71 4x4 LWB Rear Driveshaft F/S

Ironhorse,

That is Good information. I looked for a long time trying to find a 71-72 Automatic 4 wd truck. I had looked at a few manual trucks with thoughts of converting them over.

How is you conversion coming a long?

Here's an TTT for you.

Re: Original '71 4x4 LWB Rear Driveshaft F/S

athelo, just returned from UPS and got actual quote for shipping. Drive shaft weighs nearly 33 lbs after wrapping the u-joints with cardboard to protect bearings. Shipping with standard $100 insured to Harlingen, Tx. 78552 zip cost is $35. With the $75 for the shaft complete and the shipping is $110 to your door. Shaft runs good and true, only reason not using it is had to replace drive shaft from doing the std. to auto swap. Let me know if that works for you and thanks for the interest.

Re: Original '71 4x4 LWB Rear Driveshaft F/S

The drive shaft is from my '71 K10 1/2 ton factory original sm465/np205 with 350 V-8 engine. Don't think there is a differance between the driveshafts from 1/2 ton vrs. 3/4 ton but not sure.

They use different side u-joints. But i think you can get special u-joints with two differents size caps

Re: Original '71 4x4 LWB Rear Driveshaft F/S

still have it? If so, measure the distance across a u-joint from end to end so I can see if they will work.

Re: Original '71 4x4 LWB Rear Driveshaft F/S

Still have the drive shaft available. Measured distance from u-joint center to u-joint center, is 59 1/2''. As mentioned, came from '71 1/2 ton long bed 4x4with 350 v-8 and the sm465/np205 combo. Being used daily until the switch from std. to auto, no issues with the slip shaft or u-joints. If any other questions feel free to ask and thanks for the interest.

Re: Original '71 4x4 LWB Rear Driveshaft F/S

Yeah, I learned more about drive lines when I did my std. to auto swap. Had to have some front and rear drive shaft work done which did not come cheap. Hoping someone needs this shaft for a plug and play unit, save them some $$ and I can make a little back I had to spend, Thanks anyway.
