250 inline 6

Just bought myself a 69 c10 with an inline 6. Later in the future the goal is to transplant a newer model v8 into her but for now I want to get the existing motor running smooth. What type of engine oil works best with this motor? It also has a 3speed alto transmission that kicks like a mule when it shifts to second and would like that to stop. What fluid works best for older transmissions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 250 inline 6

keep the 6 there very good motors i have a 292 in my 69 and i would much rather have that than my 88 tbi 350 it runs better, gets better mileage, always starts even after sitting 8 months and its a huge unique factor when you show the truck off very few people even know what they are

Re: 250 inline 6

WELCOME!!! I usually use Rotella or Castrol motor oil.In El Paso I would run 30 weight. You might swap the distributor to a HEI(early electronic) for smoother running. If you haven't already, change the fluid and filter in the tranny and see if that helps. The 6 cyl is a great motor for these trucks.Milage will probably stay about the same with the 6 or a V8.

BTW it's madatory that you post pics. Also, you might add some details in your sig to make it easier to answer questions so you don't have to add them to every post where you ask a question. And finally details on most of the initial things are already floating around, you can usually find answers quicck with a search.
