3/8 fuel line?
I hav a 71 307 which came with a 5/16 fuel line. I decided to see if I could find a 3/8 set at the local pull a part. I found one and have some questions. The line that runs along the frame makes a u-turn right at the pump. Can some one how me how they ran the rubber line from the frame to the pump? Also the line that connects to the sending unit does not have a fitting, just a flared end. The new sending unit is set up to receive a male fitting. How did the factory make the connection?

Re: 3/8 fuel line?
First of all, does your fuel pump have a 3/8 inlet? You will not be able to run a 3/8 rubber hose from the frame line to a 5/16 inlet on the fuel. If your pump has a 3/8 inlet, then all you need is a 3/8 rubber hose made for fuel and two good clamps. Make sure it does not kink and has enough slack for engine twist.
On the other end, it sounds like the flare nut is missing from the line. You should be able to buy one at a parts store and slide it on. Can you post a photo of the flared end on the line near the sending unit. |

Re: 3/8 fuel line?
The "u-turn" is installed past the fuel pump connection so that the hose is almost a straight shot to the fuel pump.
There are different sending units, some have the female threaded connection and some have the hose connection. The easiest way to connect may be to install a hose barb into the sending unit and connect to the fuel line with a fuel resistant hose if there is room. Otherwise you may be able to exchange your sending unit for one that has the hose connection on it. Jim

Re: 3/8 fuel line?
Thx, and yes the pump has 3/8 inlet. My concern was that the rubber hose with the current pump will also have to make a u-turn. Do different pump have the inlet at a different angle?
