why does the fuse blow to taillights
Only when the headlights are on and driving. Replaced the headlight switch and this truck came from Arizona.....sockets look good. All lights work and the wiring harness to taillights look real good.
Does not blow fuse when I disconnect wiring harness at back of truck so its not the dome light or door switches I would guess. How do I track this down?

Pull the bulbs and try again. Add one buld and try, then swap. I'd bet one of the tail light housings are shorted out.

Give everything a close visual inspection for cracked wires, and bad grounds. Be suspicious of anywhere someone's tride to hook up trailer lights. Check, and clean all grounds.

Fuses blow because excess current is flowing thru them.( turn on headlights increases current flow) Disconnecting wiring isn't necessarily going to help you track this down. Check to make certain that you have correct size fuse 2. Connect a volt meter in line to check amp flow looking for excess flow. The meter should be placed in an open in the circuit, thus completing the circuit.(ie: unplug connector,connect meter probes in voltage feed line, jumper the other connections) Electrical problems can be a pita to solve.
Your light bulbs act as the resistors in your circuits, regulating the flow of current. Somewhere in the circuit current is bypassing the bulbs creating what is known as a short, a "short cut to ground" You can check your plugs and sockets for shorts by unplugging them and checking them for continuity,(lights turned off) there should be no flow thru the plug/socket.

use good tools and check inch by inch of the wiring// especially the few places where the metal clips hold it in place in the frame rail
also look for bubba splices where they hooked up traila lights
