I'm pissed at Hirsch Auto Paints!

I went to clean up a small anti-freeze (50% mix) pool that developed overnight (From the thermostat housing, no biggie, it's already fixed.) and a spot of the new engine paint came up with it right down to the cast iron! You'd swear that there was paint-stripper on it! A couple of other spots are discolored from being exposed.

AM VERY DISSATISFIED with this paint. I spent countless hours prepping this engine and spent top-dollar for what was supposed to be the best engine paint around. I expect top-of-the line engine paint (or any engine paint for that matter) to stand up to a minor anti-freeze exposure.

I don't know what recourse I have. I sent off an email to them tonight. I'll see what they have to say.

I fought with this paint enough while painting my engine and now this!

6-8 weeks! The engine has been run up to normal operating temp a couple of times too.

Yah there should be no reason for that to happen, I could see a problem after 1 week but not 6

i used to use hirsh products same damn thing happened to me with their damn engine paint was a biltch to work with then just peeled right off just like cheap wallpaper!!!!

yikes man, ive had oil and antifreeze all over my intakes and engines, all painted with auto zone du-pont engine paint in a spray can, never one problem

very sorry to hear about your paint problems. im sure thats got to be very unpleasant, especially after all the time and effort (not to mention money) to have something go down on you like that. i hope you find some better paint or get some sort of deal with those guys. GOOD LUCK!!!!

I have found the best way to paint an engine is the same way to paint the body. Prep the heck out of it, spray with epoxy primer, spray with base coat and finally spray with clear coat. This may sound odd but believe me it works. I did this on my Mustang and the paint stays put even around the headers. Cleanup is a breeze and nothing seems to faze it. If it gets dirty or greasy, wipe it off. I was skeptical when a car painter buddy told me about this but I am a true believer now. None of the "engine" paints I have tried over the years work worth a crap for the long haul.

Real sorry to hear your paint problems. My 283 was originally orange and decided to paint it black so I just used some wire brushes (various sizes) cleaned it off thoroughly, masked it (motor in) and used "Plastic Coat" high heat paint and it came out pretty good, but that really hurts when you go through all the work to do an awesome job and you get crappy results, regards Doug
