Is it WA7782 or WA8915?

Re: What is the color code for the factory gunmetal gray?

For which model year? I don't see a "gunmetal grey" in '85, for example. I see a "Silver Metallic" code 17 in '85. I see a "Grey Steel Metallic" code 90 in '87.

And are you asking for the RPO code, or the WA number?

Well Keith, I am not quite sure which one I am asking for. I was thinking of the gray that they used for 85-87 years on our trucks. As far as RPO of WA, not sure. I am using WA codes for the exterior but don't really know if it makes a difference for the interior. I am going to redo the interior in gray and want to paint the lower dash and such the factory gray color to go along with it. Sorry I am don't really know what the difference is between the RPO code and the WA#. I thought the WA was the GM number for the paint code. Thanks.

Re: What is the color code for the factory gunmetal gray?

Take a look at these:

http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcod...?gmcode=WA7782

http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcod...?gmcode=WA8915

Looks like either one will work. Since you sound like you are not sure what you are after you'll have to just try it, I suppose. If you have the WA for the exterior then I'd just use that on the interior.

Bottom line is we need a bit more detail - or you're gonna have to "wing it".

The RPO code is what the buyer chooses at the dealership when they order the truck. They get to chose from the colors that are being offered in the color pallette for that vehicle platform. In my case, this would be code 72 Apple Red.

The WA code is the specific construction/makeup/chemical composition of that RPO color, so the manufacturer (Dupont, PPG) knows how to mix it up. Keeping with the same example, for me this would be WA7475. The customer never interfaces with the WA number, only the RPO code.

Hey rs not trying to hijack...

Keith, I have the label off the glove box door, and my option number for paint
looks like "129U 29 midnight blue 90" what is the difference between an RPO code and WA number?

also has many other option codes with a short description, is there a resource to get the full details of the option codes, to be able to order specific parts, and/or to just see a breakdown of exactly what came with what code?

kind regards,

I may have answered your question 3 minutes before you asked it:

The RPO code is what the buyer chooses at the dealership when they order the truck. They get to chose from the colors that are being offered in the color pallette for that vehicle platform. In my case, this would be code 72 Apple Red.

In your case the "1" is a dummy placeholder; the primary paint code is "29U", so Midnight blue is the base color with a code 90L as the secondary color. Some kind of two tone, which would be described by another code (ZY4, ZY5, ZY6, etc).

Additional detail about the codes, content and availability can be found here. Just choose the model year of your truck and download the free .pdf file:

You are welcome.

The 90 would have had an "L" after it but they ran out of space.

"U" = upper, meaning primary paint code
"L" = lower, meaning secondary paint code, per the two tone selected.

Re: What is the color code for the factory gunmetal gray?

Lets see if I can say all this right. The WA #'s that I have are for the exterior and they are for an Indigo blue and silverish gray color. I am wanting to paint the interior a totally different color hence the gunmetal gray that some of these trucks come out with. I was given the WA #'s for the exterior. I was told they came off of a corvette.

I don't want to paint this interior the indigo blue and since I am going with gray interior I want the factory gray since it is a closer match verse the second silverish color. I am assuming that if I have the RPO # number then that will lead to the WA #. Either way I just need the code for the factory gray on these trucks. Keith, I am getting read to look at he links that you posted above and will see if they are what I am looking for. I know what I am after but just may have not made it clear. Sorry for the confusion. I will see what I can find.

Pretty much this color here. Gun metal may not be the proper color name for this but it is what I have always known it as.

Re: What is the color code for the factory gunmetal gray?

I think I figured it out. I am pretty sure that it is the WA8915. It is code 83. I narrowed it down with these two links.

http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/chipdisp...M&info=&page=9

http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/paintdet...?gmcode=WA8915

I will have the painter paint me this color on something to make sure.
