79 stepside
hey guys, so i picked up a 79 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4, 4 speed last month and finally got her to my grandpas. shes a little rough needs some tlc but this is my first project truck and i cant wait to get her up and running.
needs. motor, body mounts, gas tank, and steering collum. but i only paid 400 for it so i think i got a hell of a deal. i need to figure out the links to the clutch. the cab was a auto tranny but the guy swapped a 4 speed into it and didnt do any petal or link work after the swap. so now i gotta fill in the pieces. does anyone know where maybe i could buy some or where to look on the internet? i have a donor truck, old blue, it use to be my grandpas baby but hes let her go so i can pull parts of blue. but shes auto tranny. so that my first big huddel. ill get more pics tommorrow. i only got one now. and were in the middle of a snow storm so i havent even got her off the trailor yet. |

Re: 79 stepside
my plans are to
-take the body off the frame -drop motor in and redo lines if needed -paint frame -make a body lift for it -put body back onto frame -paint body then go cruise down a dirtroad! i thought i was gonna name her Ms Black Betty, but i think now since i got her home the name annabelle seems so much better to me. i think thats the name imma gonna give her. |

Re: 79 stepside
Look on Craigslist or local junkyards Why not use the automatic out of the blue truck. It would be easier. All the parts are already there.

Re: 79 stepside
Congrats on your project! I'll stay tuned into this one!
I definitely agree with with muddnutz, if nothing has been cut or anything in order for the manual tranny to be swapped over just go back with the auto, everything is there. If you do decide to keep it manual don't be afraid to ask questions there's plenty of knowledgeable guys on the forum that can definitely help you out.

Re: 79 stepside
I just drove by yesterday and your truck sure don't look like that any more. Where did the axles, wheels and suspension go. I seen you had the wheels on craigslist.

Re: 79 stepside
So you are keeping the axles and putting them under a new frame? Are you selling the step side bed then. I can't remember if you told me you bought a lng bed frame or not. It seems like you may have. I was kind of shocked when I drove by and seen all that.
Well it's good you are going for what you want. Post up some pics as you make progress. Good luck!

Re: 79 stepside
Why were you shocked? And yes I'm about to buy a longbed frame. And yes I got rid of the body and shirtbed frame. I'll be putting the axles under the longbed and start building a badass rig

Re: 79 stepside
Ya, I'd like while having everything off cleaning everything up replace what's needed and paint the axles and the frame. Then start building my truck!
