They are still out there!

Hey guys, I want to show you what I found last weekend! I went to a mens retreat with my church. I got to drive some new backroads for a few hours. I kept seeing squares all over the place!! Mainly 2wd long and short beds. Did see several 1/2 tons and a few 3/4 tons. A few 60-66 and 67-72's. I about slammed on my brakes when I saw this one........... SO, I asked the people at the business about it. Her dad bought it new! He is going to fix it up one day............. He is 73! It's a 79 or 80 SPORT. Buckets, console, tach, tilt, a/c, speakers on the door panels, cassette, wood bed floor, aluminum wheels, crank windows and looks like the original spare still tucked below the bed. It's been sitting a long time, and has some rust. IF I am able to buy this and maybe get it running/driveable; would any of you guys like to buy it later? I don't need it, two seats are not enough for a family of 4. That's why I bought a Suburban Anyway, I hate to see this rot to the ground, and then get sold for scrap. Please let me know if this would be worth trying to get. I think it's worth saving THIS IS NOT A FOR SALE THREAD! I DO NOT OWN THIS TRUCK!!!!! Would like opinions from you about what to do. David

Man - my first new vehicle was an 80 stepside - and I ordered it with that front end on purpose!

That was a big deal back then; the first application of a "square" headlamp in a C/K truck.

I do admit it looks a bit funky by today's standards.

Strange, my interest in vehicles ended when Chevy trucks started coming out with square headlights. The "warmed over" 1980 and all newer front ends were a disaster. Everything past 1980 was all about efficiency, styling was not important.THe last year Chevy truck that I would ever even consider buying would be a 1978.

Re: They are still out there!

if i were you i'd rescue that one- if the price was reasonable and the funds available. you could always fix and re-sell it, and the square headlights of the '80 are easy to change if you dont like them, check out what i did with mine.http://http://67-72chevytrucks.com/v...d.php?t=568610

Re: They are still out there!

You are right, they are still out there. I bought this one last Friday.

I was not looking for one, but when I saw it and how much the owner wanted I could not resist.

I have been looking around and have not found very many like it or very much info.

David, I may be interested. It doesn't even need to run, drive, or stop.

It'd be a shame to part it out or paint it red, it's a cool square to restore to original glory. I'd bring it home just to pass it along to someone like Jonboy. Getting the paint right is a pretty big deal.

Keith I am the same way about the 80 Silverado front end. I tell my self I don't like it, then I see it like this one and think "maybe".

Re: They are still out there!

What does the sport models have that the regular stepsides don't. I know someone that has a 87 with a little over 300 miles on it. The only thing I seen that was diffent was it has spot on the rear fender.

As far as I know, it was just an appearence option. Two tone paint with stripes, aluminum wheels etc. Had it's own hood ornament. It was only available for a few years and only on the 1/2t shortbed fleetside and stepside. Body colored bumpers also.

Re: They are still out there!

Great looking truck. I have been looking for an 80 sport for a while.
The sports were made from 76-81 I think. Just an expensive appearance package. They had to be a scottsdale only.
