cheaply painting a truck

i do not have access to a paint booth and wonder if hitting it with a few cans of hunter green spray paint would work, thoughts or tips or suggestions?

This is a very interesting concept to me. i am always suprised at the results some guys are getting doing this, at least from what some pictures on the web look like. I have some background in spraying and finishing but it was all cabinets and furniture. Even though i have that background i am still very interested in doing this process. Older i get the cheaper i get i guess. Compared to a Macco or Earl Shibes job how do the results of this compare? Are you able to get a better result than a scuff and spray place? i know that a multicoat, multi clear is the best but i could never part with that kind of money so i am looking into cost effective alternatives. My buddy sprayed his truck trying to do the flat black thing and seeing what he went through to get the results he got (C+) i am thinking that rolling out might be the ticket.

I wanted a durable paint for winter,and off road
bought a gallon,on sale 39.99
I didn't thin the paint as some do
had to remove some stickers,sanded,wiped with thinner before rolling
masked off /removed what i could trim etc

It works best in the sun but not too hot
I'm doing it again this year,but more,door jams,fenders off this time
aside from a few rock chips,worse drivers side,(running board on pass side)

You can find online several resources to buy a cheap paint for your truck. Are you know how to paint the truck or any experience in painting.?

my stepdad does he did autobody for quite some time but he told me that painting it in the carport with a spray gun is a nightmare to much dust cat tracks and other blemish's and i dont make enough to take it to a booth

I would add that if you're willing to "hit it with a few cans", your expectation of quality is already established.
Not saying that's a bad thing.
Sometimes guys just want it all the same color.
Some guys won't suit up unless there's 4G worth of material waiting to be sprayed, lol.
In your shoes, I'd strip off all the trim, scuff it, seal it and use an inexpensive automotive paint through a proper gun.
You didn't mention bodywork, so I'm assuming your not planning on any.

I know I'm going to get hated for saying, but look at Kirker Automotive paints.
Very affordable for what it sounds like you're wanting.

If you're not going metalic, a bc/cc can be more forgiving than you might imagine.
There have been many presentable paintjobs done in driveways.

I rolled my entire truck in Herculiner.It ends up very nice and it hides any dings you may have.Runs $90 a gallon but you can roll it on in your driveway and it dries in an hour.
