That big switch box looks like it might not fit in the space provided in the dash (at least for my 60) or maybe that's a small knob. In any event, I was thinking about the same thing as I have my instrument panel out for new bulbs, etc.

I had an 80 Jeep J10 that had 2-speed wipers. I knew that a LOT of the Grand Wagoneers had intermittent wipers so I dug into one. The wag's intermittent control piggy-backs on the original wiring, set me back $5, and took less than five minutes to install... Point being, I'm going to keep an eye out for Wagoneers in the pick and pull and grab one of these again. I think our switch knobs will work on the Jeep switch...

well I may call them and see how it hooks up, my first thought was to do as you said and piggy-back this on to my existing swith so I turn on the wipers and then set the delay timer.

I have one speed wipers and im either going to do this or add a momuntary push button so I can reach down and give it a quick punch every 15 secs or so in misting rain.

If it is anything like the Newport Engineering wipers, it will not work with exsisting GM wipers. The original wipers are a constant 12V + with switched grounds. The replacement or upgrade wiper kits, that normally replace vacuum wipers are 12V + switched with a comon ground. At least that is the explanation I got from Newport when I asked about using their delay wiper switch w/ GM wiper motor.

That one looks very similiar to theirs. Would be nice to know the MFG so you could ask them directly.

They also offer one with the same switch with a push button switch for the window washer, not sure if this has one, and if the original knob attaches also for one speed or two speed motors, would work quite fine.

I did some digging today to see what was out there and feasible for intermittent wipers for our trucks.

Here's what I found: Hella offers an intermittent wiper control with washer function. it is compatible with either a positive or negative activated wiper motor. it appears that it would work nicely with the 2 speed motor. it sells for around $70 from Amazon.com. Summit a few other also carry it, price varies from $70 - $90. It has a round mounting and would guess that an OEM knob could be retrofitted. I ordered one, and will post results.

He said it will work with single speed coast to park wipers, replaces the entire OEM switch ,, i will be ording soon.

That would be a handy feature, we don't get anything other than misty rain here, so it's always annoying to drive in the rain

I did a little more investigating, and the switch I found from Hella, may not do what I thought it would. I think I misunderstood how it is configured. It may have to be used in conjunction with the OEM switch, as the wiring diagram shows interupting the low speed circuit. BUT this would not be a concern IF you have that empty hole from the choke you're not using any more- simply mount the delay control there. Will know more when I recieve mine and get a chance to lay it all out. Hopefully, it will work and be a nice addition for less than $100.

64 shortbed: I think like most of the aftermarket ones out there- that one, too is designed to switch the power to the wiper motor for the delay and wiper speeds, where ours changes the resistance to ground.

BUT I wonder if a person could use that with any way. Might be worth looking into.
I am going to gather up a few different ones that are available and see what I can make work. I am willing to invest a little to find an answer. Seems to be an item alot would be interested in.
My objective: find a solution that will work with OEM motor and switch.
My plan: design and fabricate a "bolt on" so to speak wiring harness between the OEM switch and motor, that incorporates the delay control.
AND keep the entire package under $100 retail.

Will get working on this soon.

Some of the 80's chevys have dash mounted delay wipers. I took one of them apart, and I think it would work with the 67-72 motors with a little tweaking. My plan was to mount the switch in the stock location. You slide it right to switch speeds, and turn it to change delay time. Wiring is not my specialty, so i didn't get it finished.

You know...the switch out of a mid 80's F*rd works great. twist left for washer, twist right for delay. Pull once for slow, pull twice for fast. Pulled mine out of a '84 F150.

Did it wire to the stock motor, or did you pull the motor from the ford too?

I had it done at by another mechanic. He said he pulled the motor out of a 77 C-20 (I think) but when it came to wiring it up he asked how I wanted it since my steering column was not set up for it. I decided I wanted one set up in the empty choke slot on the dash. At the time I had an 84 ford beater that I drove into the ground. I checked and the switch fit the position almost perfectly. When I showed it to my mechanic, he said it was a piece of cake to make it work. He did have to use individual wires instead of a plug but thats nothing IMO.
