MY DOORS ON MY TRUCK LOCK, BUT I CAN LOCK WHEN IM ON THE INSIDE AND MY DRIVERS DOOR LOCKS BUT WHEN I PUSH ON THE BUTTON IT POPS LIKE ITS GOING TO OPEN BUT IT IS STILL LOCKED. IF I LOCK FROM THE INSIDE THEY POP BACK UP AS SOON AS I CLOSE MY DOOR MY DOORS ARE SCREWED UP. DOES ANYBODY ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM I CAN REALLY ONLY LOCK FROM THE OUTSIDE WITH A KEY OR ON THE INSIDE ONLY IF I STAY INSIDE. HELP !!!!!!!! THANKS, DAN

i'm not exactly sure what you are trying to say, but my doors only lock from the outside or when you are inside. if i push the lock button down, then shut the door, it pops back up and is unlocked. maybe they did this so you'd never lock your keys inside your truck? i'm not sure.

i just thought they were all like that.....my 69 was like that too,just as my 68 is now.....

That's the way they work. If your door lock button doesn't pop up when you unlock your door with the key then you need to pull your inner door panel and lubricate your door lock linkage.

try getting out of your truck pushing down the button and holding in the button on the outside door hadle that may allow ya to bypass the lock button popping up

I cant try this since my doors are off my truck but I had a toyota 4runner that did the same thing. I found out that if you keep the door handle pulled up (outside) while shutting the door, it will stay locked. You wont have to lock it with the key. Has anyone tried shutting the door while keeping your thumb pressed against the door opener? Just a thought...

I tried it...it don't work.
Locking the door with the key is the only way to lock them up.
Well, you could leave the window down and reach in to lock it...

I'll second Andy's observation there. I call it a feature. The only way to lock your keys in the truck is if you have the window cracked and throw them in after you lock the door.

Do you have to hold the button on the handle in when you close the door in order for it to lock ?

I have never driven or locked my truck yet. it is in pieces

Holding in on the button will NOT allow it to remain locked when you close the door.
Like Longhornmail says, the doors will only lock when they are closed. Either from the inside by pushing the button down or the outside with the key.

edit: and they will only lock when they are all the way closed. They will not lock if the latch isn't at the second click position. If this doesn't make sense now, it will when you install new door seals and the door won't close all the way.

You can't even push the button in when the door is locked. We're not missing anything. You just can't do it with a properly functioning stock setup.

Guess its time to get those electric locks I 've been wanting.
Anybody tried installing the type of electric lock actuators that will lock or unlock both doors when you turn the key in one of the doors?

Whats the point of power locks if you have to put a key in to open them. Go keyless entry, buy a powerlock kit and buy an alarm and most alarms these days will interface into the locking system. Turn the alarm on the doors lock, turn it off they unlock.

I have a different option.... I have to push the door in with my knee and then lock it with the key....
