Door alignment ???

After I re assembled my truck when I got it home from paint, I installed my doors, and while the passenger side shuts great, the drivers side needs quite a bit of force to shut. And I cannot get door to latch flush like it used to. What adjustments can I make to get it flush? I tried moving the strike plate back as far as possible but it makes latching nearly impossible.

Re: Door alignment ???

does the door close ok with out the weatherstrip on the cab installed? was there any damage or rust repair on the drivers a-pillar? if so sounds like the door is binding up on the a-pillar.

Re: Door alignment ???

How old are the seals?

Aside from sucking it in with the latch, you're kinda stuck, because to pull it in more requires pulling the whole door in at the hinge... but then you have to adjust the fender and hood again...

Re: Door alignment ???

Did you put new door seals in? had this problem with my dad's 85, doors wouldn't hit the striker properly and no amount of adjustment would fix it. If you pop them out and try to align it and close the door it will at least eliminate that as a factor, if it is still messed up door seals aren't the issue. If I recall we bought different door seals from another supplier and it worked well. Door adjustment takes far more patience then I profess to have, so I usually only spend a little while fussing with it and keep going back after I get frustrated. Hope that helps.

Re: Door alignment ???

The seals are new on both sides, precision seals. The door hinges are rebuilt with new bushings. If it's the seals then why does the passenger side shut so much better? It will shut and latch on its own but the drivers side I have to almost slam?

Re: Door alignment ???

Ok so I removed the drivers side door seal and still didnt shut right, I removed the 2 new rubber stops I installed and it shuts a little better, I guess I need to cut them down some.

Nope, I bought my truck from original owner and had original paint. Doors shut great before I tore it down.
