Re: give me a reason not to rip it off

I've been told it's a fire blanket, when the plastic clips that hold it up melt it drops down over the motor to smother the fire. Whatever it is you don't need it, most trucks had them ripped off years ago.

Lol no, it is just noise/heat insulation. It cuts down on the engine noise and keeps the hood from getting quite so hot. You can rip it off, it's not a necessary item, many vehicles did, and still do come without them.

rip that useless material off. my truck came without from the previous owner. all the stuff does is fall all over your engine as old as it is by now.

Ok, but does it really work? I thought about installing a new one from LMC. Trying to get the noise distribution goin out back from the mufflers not in front. Is it worth it?

Re: give me a reason not to rip it off

I ordered a new one from my local dealer when I did my resto. Have to cut it to fit. Looks better than most repro I have seen. I added it to dampen as much noise as I could along with sound deadener in the cab. All added up it made a diffrence in the cab.

That depends, when you are going down the road do you hear the drone from your mufflers, or the roaring of the engine? If you hear the engine over the mufflers it will help, but if you have a loud exhaust the difference won't be noticeable unless combined with additional sound deadening. It makes a noticeable difference in a quiet stockish truck.
