Backspacing on 8" wheel?

Will a 17x8 with 4.5 backspacing work on a 5"-6" dropped square?

I havent had time to pull my current wheels of & measure the backspacing & it's been to long to remember so I thought I'd ask you guys until I get a chance to measure.
I believe my current wheels are close to this backspacing.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Backspacing on 8" wheel?

I'm pretty sure you have to grind some off the lip of the lca with 4.5" backspacing

Re: Backspacing on 8" wheel?

I had 17x8 wheels on my ol '82 2wd blazer with a 5" BS up front.
I would run a 17x9.5 on the rear.
(I believe my 9.5's had a 4.5" BS)

Re: Backspacing on 8" wheel?

My issue is pretty much all the 17x8's I've found are 4.5" backspacing.
(Coys, Ridlers, MB Old Schools, etc)

Re: Backspacing on 8" wheel?

I think you will be ok with 4.5in bs as long as the tire isnt to large. Stock rallys 15x8 have 4.25in bs.

That's exactly on what tires are on the truck now & it fills the fender wells great.

At least 5.25" BS on a 20x8.5 up front.

Re: Backspacing on 8" wheel?

Here's the minimal grinding that is required with 1-1/4" HD rotors.
81-87 Light Duty 1" rotors are a direct fit.
