New Guy Here, Project Triple Nickel
Hey guys. Some of you may recognize me or my truck. I am new here, but definitely not new to these trucks or forums in general. My name is Brian Barber, and I am the vice president of ASA (American Squarebody Association). I currently have a 1982 GMC Sierra that is juuuuust about done. There is a pretty lengthy story on how it got to this point, but I will skip all that for now and just tell you how it sits today.....
It's powered by a 555 BBC with a little over 700 HP and over 725 ft/lbs of torque on pump gas. It's backed by a fully (and I mean fully) built 700R4 with billet housing and all billet internals, 6 pinion front planetary, 5 pinion rear, billet shafts, 9 clutch input drum, .555 boost valve, full manual valve body, and PATC billet 3200 stall, and is built to withstand 1000HP. It has a 3.5" custom built drive shaft with Strange ends, and that mates up to a cross braced Fab9 rear housing with 35 spline axles, 4.11 gears, and Wilwood disc brakes. It has a 8/10 point chromoly 8.5 second cert roll cage. C&R Racing 4 core aluminum radiator with dual 14" Spal high output fans and Dakota Digital fan relay. The paint and interior are all new with custom seat, door panels, and other mods. It sits on 18x8 American Racing Hopsters up front, and custom 20x15's out back wrapped in 31x18x20 Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R's. The front suspension rests on drop springs, drop spindles, Strange single adjustable drag shocks, and sectioned lower control arms. The rear rests on a custom 4-link with anti-roll bar and dual adjustable Strange coilovers. A wheelie bar sticks out the back to keep the front end in check and to let the guy in the mustang know that he better pick someone else to play with. There are several other mods, but I have wasted enough of you time for now. If you would like to know anything else, please just ask!

Re: New Guy Here, Project Triple Nickel
Thanks. It is actually more complete than the pictures show. I am on a rig right now, but I should get to really see what she is made of when I get home in a few weeks. I have driven it twice already, but just to find the bugs. Still have a slight touch of interior work, and resurfacing of the bed floor. After that it is only minor touches that will need to be made to make her "complete". Of course we all know that they are never finished, but just don't tell my wife that!

Re: New Guy Here, Project Triple Nickel
In all seriousness how many miles you get per gallon or is it just a drag truck?

Re: New Guy Here, Project Triple Nickel
Its a street truck. Havent driven it enough to know fuel mileage, but that was the least of my concerns, lol

Re: New Guy Here, Project Triple Nickel
Good to see you on here Brian. Of course we need more detailed pics of the interior, the rear setup, and the startup vids. The pic on ASA of how the seat wraps around the shifter is something that I have been toying with for some time now. More I see it like this the more I want to do that if and when I go with a floor mounted shifter.
I see many challenges in your future at every stop light you encounter. The more intimidating you appear, the more you will be tested. Holding back makes them try even harder.

Re: New Guy Here, Project Triple Nickel
Here is a pic of what the seat looked like when it was in cloth. It has since all been reupholstered and other interior mods made, but you can see what I was after here.

Re: New Guy Here, Project Triple Nickel
I dont have any cage pics with me here, but its a moly cage with removable door bars, runs through the dash, hugs close everywhere, and passes through the rear glass rubber. Only had to o knotch the cab a slight amount. The rear glass is lexan

Re: New Guy Here, Project Triple Nickel
Here are a couple videos of the first time we fired the truck up. I do not have any videos of it driving yet, but will be posting them up as I get them in a few weeks.

Re: New Guy Here, Project Triple Nickel
Glad to be here, Joe. I haven't posted any pics of the seat up here, because I had the seat redone in 3 tone leather, but I do not like the way it turned out, and I am having it redone once more. I will post pics up when it is complete. I can post one up of how it looked the first time I did it with the cloth cover tho. I will try to find one. And I will have to take some of the rear end setup once I get back home. It looks pretty fierce under there now.
As for the challenges at the stop light....the truck will have it's own money, and anyone that is serious about seeing what it will do will have to fork up the minimum amount required, lol. Kinda like "you must be this tall to ride", except "you must pay this much to race!".

Re: New Guy Here, Project Triple Nickel
Not only does it look nice but it sounds good too. I very much like the wrap around look. The truck just keeps getting better. Again nice job!

I haven't ran this setup yet. We are expecting mid 10's out of it.
