Replacement parts for a '48
I have a 1948 1.5 ton that I am trying to restore and am looking for quallity sheetmetal replacement parts. I am fairly new to these trucks and don't know how much, if any, of the parts will cross over from the smaller trucks. Some help woud be greatly appreciated. Thanks Woody.

Re: Replacement parts for a '48
Main things that wont cross over as far as i know will be the Front fenders and hood. The fenders have a bigger wheel well and a different shaped hood(not a major difference). Are you going to put a standard bed or build a flatbed? Are you doing a complete resto, or semi mod it? show us some pics of what ya got
You can also try using Classicparts.com, I prefer them over LMC from my experience they are cheaper |

Re: Replacement parts for a '48
I did see that the hood and fenders are diffrent. But my main thing is the cab, arround the front and rear windows is rusted out. I will be doing a semi mod on it. This is my younger brothers truck and he is away at school, so I get to do the work for him. He would like to put this setup on a 4x4 chassis and make a 6' box for it. Don't know now it will look but that's down the road. I will try to get some pics up loaded soon.
I got all the parts for my '72 from LMC and was not impressed with some things I will try Clasicparts and see what I can find. Thanks for the help. |

Re: Replacement parts for a '48
Yes the cab components are the all the same. and im doing something similar to my 1.5 ton 49. instead of putting the cab and stuff on a newer 4x4 frame im swapping the 4x4 axles under the current frame. i only got to work on it for 2 days and have most of the front axle bolted on. i used the current drive linkage but cut it in half and used some pipe to extend it to where it would be long enough for what the 79 K2500 axles

Re: Replacement parts for a '48
I think right now I will try to put it on the 72 blazer frame that I have an see if it works. Don't know if it will be too short or not. Here is what I got to work with.
outside. inside. It needs some work but it is not as bad as it looks. I hope. |

If the cab parts are the same that might help some.

That cab looks toast. You will have a ton of hours trying to fix that or alot of money on replacement panels. Around the windows, the floor, I'd bet cab corners and cowls too. Check out some of the local salvage yards. I'm not too far from you and I know where dozens of good cabs are in local yards.

Gee for a meer $ 7 grand you can have a brand new reproduction cab.
That said, I would look for a much better cab. But if your thinking of redoing the original cab have it blasted first then assess what it needs and cost it out. Good luck with your build.

Re: Replacement parts for a '48
I would first look for another cab, the time & money trying to fix the one you have would greatly justify buy another.

Re: Replacement parts for a '48
Yep it's not in any good shape. I know how much work it will take, but it was my grandfathers truck and he really likes the split rear windows. I have been looking for a diffrent cab since he picked up this one and they don't seem to be just lieing arround.
My buddy has a blaster I will get and then see what is left after that. |

To bad your not closer, The bigger trucks are every where around here and they are usually in better shape than the smaller trucks.

Re: Replacement parts for a '48
It dose have alot of rust but I think that I am going to try and fix what I can. What I have right now is alot of time and a little money. Steel is cheap and if a better cab comes along I can always sell this one or scrap it.
