Any advice on converting column shifter to floor shifter.

Have a 69 Chevy, new to the site. Just asking for any advice or suggestions for the best way to convert the column shifter to the floor or should I just keep it on the tree and beef it up some if possible. Been slacking and haven't mess with her for awhile. Have been thinking about doing this for too long now just would like some ideas from some who has done it before. I'm only 23 years old just learning still.

mine was converted when I bought it but it had a cheap Mr gasket shifter in it and it was a piece of trash. removing the old linkage can't be too hard. the install is a breeze on the lokar unit I put back in mine and I highly recommend it. has detents like a factory shifter and is of the same or higher quality.I love it!

Basically, you remove all of the original shifter assembly and install whatever shifter you want. The 3-speed in my truck had been already converted when I bought it, but the kit is simple enough. I know Hurst makes a kit for our trucks. Installation of the kit is pretty straightforward, I just did one on my new 4-speed.

You will obviously have to cut a hole in the floor and install a shift boot. Biggest issue comes in if you have a bench seat. I had to do significant modifications to the shifter to make it work with the bench for both the 3-speed and the 4-speed. If you can weld or have a buddy who can help out, you will be fine.

Yeah i have really been looking at how many guys on here did theirs. Since its a turbo 350 auto trans it shouldnt be extremely hard. Just trying to figure out the best ideas. Thanks. I have the bench seat and from whats i've seen it may be alright just depends how high and what kind of shifter i decide.

Oh, I was assuming it was a manual trans. Installing an auto floor shifter is a piece of cake.

I have a b&m unimatic shifter on a high hump Tran tunnel. The high humo trans tunnel really made the shifter feel perfect.
