Cruise Control-OEM-Very Complete, but what year???
[B]This cruise control was requested by Pete DeadheadNM, so he does have first call on it.
It appears to be very complete, w/all connections and hardware intact. I did not remove it so I can't guarantee the year. It came with the factory tilt column, so it should be 71 or 72. I think some of the guys on here will know for sure and chime in. The system in the other page/thread from 2009 was $425 and I think this one is more complete........................so, I will sell for $500 shipped & insured. Here's the pics. |

Re: Cruise Control-OEM-Very Complete, but what year???
Thanks for the pics Frank! I'd definitely grab it but don't think it's the 72 dealer accessory set up I'm after. Here are pics of the 72 cruise. Can anyone else confirm?

Re: Cruise Control-OEM-Very Complete, but what year???
IMHO, the pics that Deadhead posted of the cruise control are correct for 71-72 factory ordered or dealer installed set-up, with the engagement button under the dash. It seems depending on where you lived in the US, some of the cruise set-ups were installed at the factory and some where delivered in a GM box laying on the seat. If you went into the dealer after 72 and wanted cruise control, then the later version was offered. For wiw.

Re: Cruise Control-OEM-Very Complete, but what year???
From what I can tell from the pics this is a cruise system from a 1973-1973 Chevelle. I've got an NOS system for this car and matches. The servo and bracket mount of the frame rail, and the transducer mount on the fender tube.
For your information the pic that DeadheadNM posted of a 1972 cruise system is one of my systems. The pic was posted for one of my ebay auctions several years ago. Also from what I know GM discontinued the cruise option in 1972, but made it available as a dealer add on option and was purchased from the parts dept. I have the dealer order manuals and cruise systems were available on new trucks from 1967-1971. In 1972 you could not order a cruise system as it was dropped. It's possible that it might have been available in late production orders do to demand. I have never seen the cruise option listed on the SPID for 1972 trucks. But who knows, anything is possible.

Re: Cruise Control-OEM-Very Complete, but what year???
...and I am no expert on cruise master. I found a section under accessories in the 1971 Service Manual. The regulator looks like the one in my pics and it shows the engagement switch on the turn sig arm. No mention of under dash switch. Most diagrams are generic drawings, so not exact. I didn't find anything in the 1972 service manual.

Re: Cruise Control-OEM-Very Complete, but what year???
I agree with Roger, he has done a lot of research on these systems and knows what he's talking about. Even to the point of manufacturing some of these hard items to find. The cruise master button pic on the left was for an Impala or Monte Carlo, the pic on the right is correct for a truck. I used to have a '71 factory BB SWB truck and the cruise control option was listed on the SPID. '72 seems to be where things were a bit unclear. Again, I agree with Roger, that it's possible due to production demand in '72 it was available, even though not listed.
