Console Spacer correct or not?

I'm about to install my non original factory console. I welded the original braces to the cab for the seats and when I bought the console I paid an extra 30 bucks for a spacer that goes in the front bottom of the console. The guy who sold me this told me this is the correct for 72. It makes the console top match the seat bottoms better. I never looked or noticed one on other bucket seat trucks before is there supposed to be a spacer under the console in a 72?

Re: Console Spacer correct or not?

The originals did not use any spacers. However, the consoles did not have flat bottoms. I don't know what the replacement consoles are like on the bottom.

I have a factory console that was not original to my specific truck. Do you have an original bucket seat truck that has no spacer under the console?

Re: Console Spacer correct or not?

The console is formed to set on the ridge in the floor. No spacer. Trevor

Re: Console Spacer correct or not?

So I have a molded plastic spacer that fits under the console and has the same exterior finish? It must be factory for something? Could it be used on 73-78 trucks? I was told it was for 72 trucks by a guy who had a nice collection of parts for our trucks. He did say most people don't know about the spacer? It does have holes on the top of the spacer that line up with the console holes and the holes on the bottom of the spacer have a shorter hole spacing where it mounts to the floor and since I don't have a factory bucket seat truck I can't confirm if my mystery spacer lines up with any factory holes in the floor. I did do a search before I asked this question and in one of the links someone produced a drawing that showed a spacer under the console? I just want to know (for sure) if it is original and if it is, I want to use it.

My 69 is an original bucket seat truck. I bought it new. It never had a spacer.... never will. Hope that clarifies. Here's a picture I took last year as I was replacing the carpet. Hope it helps.

Re: Console Spacer correct or not?

I'm not familiar with any spacer. Is it just recommended to make it align with lower seat curve better, but not original to 72's perhaps? Odd that it seems so "made for that console and floor".

Re: Console Spacer correct or not?

The only time I have seen them used was on 73 up.

Re: Console Spacer correct or not?

Here is a console I bought that was said to be from 1976 Chevy truck scheduled to be used in my 73.

I recall reading somewhere on this forum that I would need a floor bracket. I purchased one from the Parts board.

This 73-87 link states at the very end; the console bolts directly to the floor. A bracket is not mentioned.

http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/inte...ry_buckets.htm

I crawled under my 73 cab to see if there are any holes or dimples or plugs and could not find anything. I did have my bench seat out at one time and only noticed a couple of holes in the center of the carpet; possibly in case the truck was ordered with buckets?

Here is what I have for a bracket; again intended for my 73

Re: Console Spacer correct or not?

The reason for the bracket isn't for 67-72 at all....they were for 73-80 but only for blazers and maybe suburbans because the floor is flat in the rear....so thus needing the spacer to lift it up. They weren't 67-72 though. My bro-in-laws 78 blazer has one. Trevor

Re: Console Spacer correct or not?

There is also 2 styles. One plastic one like in the pic above and a earlier one that is just 2 angle metal stands. Trevor
