Re: Dark blue /med blue combo?

Do you have one of those "inflation fighter" special edition models? They came with a stripe. Maybe it's dark blue with med blue interior?

Re: Dark blue /med blue combo?

My brother in law used to own a 71 K20 with this color combo. I wished I had a pic of it, very unusual combo. I think it's interesting that yours also came with the paint stripe

You called the two-tone panel between the upper and lower trim a "stripe" which caused the confusion. You're not the only one. I've seen this mistake here pretty often. It's not a stripe, but I guess people just started calling it that lately. I never heard that till lately and only here. On a truck with no upper trim GM offered a pinstripe that followed about the same line as the upper trim. In '72,just as with the Highlander promo, there was also a second promo pkg called the Inflation Fighter. It was a base truck, including 6cyl,that came with that pinstripe, chrome bumpers/caps,and a couple other optional items for a reduced price. So,between the economical 6 cyl, base model, and small group of discounted options, they fought inflation!

Saw this interesting combo up north a few years ago, and it was listed on the SPID.

Re: Dark blue /med blue combo?

The truck I have now came with this combo. I'm about 1 weekend away from completely erasing any trace of it though. The truck is (was) dark blue everywhere except the exterior roof.

So it's just like any truck that has a solid color with a white top, but instead is light blue.

Re: Dark blue /med blue combo?

The Dark & Medium Blue combo sure is odd. Heck, until they're together it's hard to tell them apart. Especially once Dark Blue has faded. I wonder if anyone has seen a Light & Medium Red combo or Hugger & Tangiers?

I think they're special. But,if your truck isn't one it doesn't matter. Your truck was originally a deluxe two-tone with upper & lower trim and no stripe.

Good one man, I know you didn't intend this to be funny, but I had a Vision of the Hulk doing that and broke out laughing

Looks like they hooked a chain to pull it or for it to pull something else. That,or caught something backing up

Re: Dark blue /med blue combo?

The 558 (dk blue roof/med blue body) and the reverse 559 (med blue roof/dk blue body) were two of several Custom Two-tone options offered from 70-72. I have run across several trucks so built but every one has been repainted or faded to the point of being indistinct. BTW The Longhorn SPID pictured is not the truck pictured below.

The Custom Two-Tone trucks were a roof only combination like the white roof Conventional Two-Tone trucks.

If you truck also has the D89 pinstripe option it would be white with the blue body color. There were offered only in white or black.

As far as your truck having a blue stripe down the side it seems unlikely it was factory. While belt moldings were offered in 70 the Deluxe Two-Tone with the white side panels were not offered until 71 and I have never seen documentation they were offered in any color other than white.

It was however a popular period addition like the white with blue Longhorn below. Nice but not stock.

Welcome to the board! That is a beautiful truck. Mine was originally the same 559 combo.
