Temp gauge problem
My temp gauge in my 70 when i crank to start the engine the gauge goes to full hot and stays there like it is stuck truck has new wiring & temp sensor ? Tryed a differant gauge same thing happened

It's wired wrong or grounding out I bet if new sensor and two diff gauges do the same thing.

It's the resistor on the back. Or more likely, the insulators that go in that area. If I remember, they are just like washers that go on the posts.
Did you have it apart before this started happening?

There should be a resistor on the back of the gauge between the top and bottom posts. Picture is attached.
I should have a couple of extras if you happen to need one. |

Different style, but same part.
Must be a sender, ground or other wiring issue. |

got it working !! whats the chances of having 2 bad resistors pulled a 3rd from a doner cluster and it works now thanks everyone for you help

Could the resistor be the problem if the gauge always stays cold?
