No accessory holes in head
Hi all,
I picked up a new engine and transmission for my truck, but the passenger side head has no bolt holes in it for A/C brackets. I was told that there is a bracket set that I could use that does not bolt to the head. Anyone know where to pick one of these up? Also, would it be possible to have holes tapped in the head to use the more common brackets? Thanks, Jeff |

Re: No accessory holes in head
As far as tapping ur heads for new threads..It has been said before here that you ruin a water jacket and create a leak. For most of the earlier style heads 283, 327.

Re: No accessory holes in head
You just need to find a/c brackets for a '67 back passenger car that doesn't use those holes. The holes started cin '68.

Re: No accessory holes in head
Thanks, good deal that it was 67 and back. Was worried that it was a one year only or something.

here's one option that might work for you although you would need a remote fuel pump.

Re: No accessory holes in head
I found one that bolted to the intake and water pump, but not sure if it is braced somewhere, but looked like there wasn't much supporting the rear of the compressor (looked like one of the sanden comps).

Re: No accessory holes in head
I've drilled the early heads to mount the alternator. The only leak I ever had was slight oil seepage, never coolant. I was young and would not do that now. You need to use washers to get the bracket to sit square and aligned right. Looking back,it's a small miracle I had no problems at all. With the correct OEM set-up I have had to use the Z/28 deep groove alt. pulley to prevent belt squeal when revved. Also, have had the whole deal fall off the head from a bolt sheering off and wallowing out the other hole. The right stuff is out there to be found,so that's how I do it.
My '67 project is running a 327 out of a '68. When I rebuilt it I swapped my machinist the heads for a pair of 64cc '67-earlier heads because I wanted it to look like a 327,not a 350,that might have come in the truck. Oh,and the 64cc thing, too. I have Sanderson shorties that will require me to get mounts for the alternator that mount on the exhaust port

Re: No accessory holes in head
I think "March" makes an aftermarket system for this. But I would make sure you want to keep these heads before you go thru that.
