Vortec vs. tbi

My 99 vortec in the burb is bad. I have a 5.7 throttle body out of a 95 Tahoe. Can I just switch the intake or do I have to change more to make the tbi work in the 99?

This belongs in the 88-98 message board.

New GM replacement Vortec engines are very affordable at +/- $2000 & come with a 3yr/100,000 warranty.

TBI short blocks can be made to work.....But not worth the hassle.

Re: Vortec vs. tbi

No way would I even fathom changing Vortec injection for the TBI. Vortec FI has its ups and downs... but the TBI is a completely different animal altogether.

Re: Vortec vs. tbi

The vortec 5.7 is nothing like the LS vortec motors. This intake manifold will never work. The intake and exhaust ports are evenly spaced out on the LS motors but in the 5.7 they are like the old style 350's with the intake ports next to each other on the front and rear of the motor

Re: Vortec vs. tbi

sorry about that I just realized that the LS vortec motors came out in the trucks in 99 but not the burb/tahoe until the next year
