My temp gauge hasn't worked since I got my truck, so I replaced the sender today. Still nothing. The gauge doesn't move. What do I do next? Look for a new gauge?

Check wirinng. Bench test the guage by adding 12v AND ground. Ground is the sending unit

I was told by a friend to ground the wire that runs to the sender and see if the gauge responds. Once the wire is grounded, the gauge does go all the way up past "hot" Not sure what this means...

I'm working on removing the dash so I can get access to the gauge cluster next I guess.

That means the wiring should be good. The check sending unit by heating the tip and with the multimeter should have a short from the terminal to body. it should be open with it being cold. Probably the gauge is bad. I had one that would act normal when i grounded it but then was bad when i put in service

The sender terminal to threads should measure somewhere between 13KΩ & 3KΩ cold and somewhere between 100Ω & 200Ω at 200°F .

You can test the gauge by grounding the sender terminal. It should nail the gauge at the top of its' sweep.
