CPP / POL tie rod conversion?
Hey folks,
I'm flipping the shock mounts as my power steering kit's instructions say. With the shock mounts flipped to the rear of the axle, though, the tie rods hit while turning. It looks like if I flip the tie rod to the under side of the steering arm I'll be able to clear the shock mounts. Ideally I'd use the updated tie rod parts while I'm at it (no sense pressing the ball stud back in, right?) Anyone here run into this? Have pictures, or an explanation what parts / what you did to resolve? |

I am not going to get into why the cpp kits {the one that uses the GM steering box} Are not good! The new ones look ok.
What I will say is the drag link doesn't care if on top or the bottom front or back. and to avoid bump steer the drag link needs to be as close to the spring pivot {with the wheels pointed straight ahead} as possible. and in the center of the arc that it travels not parallel to the ground. If it is parallel to the ground. and not in the center of the arcs you will still get bump steer. I reamed the arms my jeep and moved it from the bottom to the top of the arms. |

It's a simple upgrade. If the ball studs are pressed out on both sides, you just spin your tie rod ends onto the new tie rod, pop it in from the bottom and install the castle nuts and cotter pins. Once it's installed, you can adjust you toe in/toe out and tighten the ends up. It takes a matter of minutes to install.
