1970 accelerator pedal question

Have a 1970 thats missing the accelerator pedal. As a matter of fact all my 69 and 2 1970's are. Took one off a parts 1972 and they appear different. Is there in fact a difference. The one I need to replace still has the original insulation cardboard over it so I really couldnt see everything. On the 1970 how does the pedal actually attach to the rod (linkage) is there just a clip on the back or better yet does somebody have a pic of the back of one.

Re: 1970 accelerator pedal question

IIRC, the 72's had the newer style pedal with a cable. The accelerator assembly mounts to the inside of the firewall. The older ones the pedal sits on 2 ball studs on the floor and pushes the throttle rod, which pivots on the engine side of the firewall. The pedal just hits the rod and is not attached to it. Completely different setups.

Re: 1970 accelerator pedal question

Below are some pictures of the back of my original accelerator pedal and the floor area showing the hinged rod through the firewall that the carb rod attaches to and the studs projecting through the carpet that go into the holes at the base of the accelerator pedal.

Also, attached are links to the studs I bought from Classic Industries (sold by most vendors) and one of many threads of how to convert to the 71/72 setup. Search the forum for "accelerator conversion" to find other links with many pics. GM converted from the solid rod setup to the cable type in the 71 trucks due to safety concerns.
