Re: 57 rear boxing plates
I boxed mine in and then cut the c notch. It was all done with 3/16" plate and a piece of rolled 3/16" plate for the arch in the notch. It's not difficult at all, just takes time

Re: 57 rear boxing plates
I used my 4 1/2" grinder with a zip cut disc. I used it to cut the traced out shape of my frame and to cut the hole for the notch

Re: 57 rear boxing plates
unless you can flip your frame or like welding overhead for hours at a time i'd cut it to fit inside the frame
that way you can sit on a bucket and weld the top and bottom flanges i had the metal warehouse cut all my plate to fit inside and trimmed what i needed over the rear axle and where it tapers on the front horns i removed and fabbed up some x-members and kept some in place and notched around them if you don't c-notch your frame the lowest you can is about 5'' and the lowest you'll be able to ride is about 8'' i have a 3-4'' notch, standard bed height and am static at 5'' but occasionally hit the bump stops i would suggest a 5'' notch minimum, more if you don't mind raising the bed more
