Drop or Bag - Pros and Cons
Other than the price delta, what are the Pros/Cons for bagging Vs. dropping? I was ready to do a 4/6 lowering kit but now and seriously considering going the bag route. What are you thoughts and experiences?

Static drop is more reliable. No potential for air leaks, compressor failures etc. I'm sure you can guess I'm a static drop guy. Air has its own set of advantages too though, to be fair.

I went with static then bags then back to static. For me it was the simplicity of just jumping in and going with a lower ride height. Then again my truck is my daily....

I recommend Pro Performance, but I might be bias...
![]() Give me a call, PM or email and we can get you setup with what you are looking to do..... Whether it be mild to wild. I can understand where you are coming from. I can't comment on the trucks particular setups that you saw failed on the road..... but, if the air suspension is setup correctly with good quality parts, it can be very reliable. |

My truck has been lowered for about 5 years and I thought it rode pretty good. I just finished bagging it and I will never go back!!!! I never thought a 72 Chevy pick-up could ride so GOOD.

we have really rough roads where I drive, and air bags was definitely worth it for me! Simple air bags on schraeder valves are doable for around $500-$600. It wasn't a big deal to fill the odd slow leak once every 2 weeks or so, but make sure you take care to seal all fittings properly. The time and money was nothing compared to the ride quality improvement going to bags! I didn't notice a lot of difference cornering, but small bump control was awesome.

Bags are smoother riding but you will lose a little of your cornering ability with them. If you cut your tubing with a correct cutter and make sure they are squared and barb free you will be fine with no leaks.
Static drop is more reliable, but you cant adjust ride height that route. With bags you can adjust your height anytime to suit your desires. I love the bag ride I have and with some of the work to do on the truck I just air it up and gives me nice clearance to crawl under it. |

a major plus to bagging it is because it is so easy compared to other vehicles,
Just remove the springs and fit in the air bag. right where the spring was.

I prefer bags for the same reasons mentioned above.... especially the adjustability. You get the advantages of a slammed truck, but with better drivability due to the raising and lowering aspect. The nicer ride is definitely a plus. The 67-72 trailing arm trucks are at an advantage, because it is a lot easier to bag these trucks vs. the leaf spring trucks.

Agree on bagging...and it can be adjustable on a relatively small budget...One 5 gallon tank, an electric compressor (or EDC (york compressor on the engine) and dloe's valves and you have four corner adjustability for just 500 or less more than static dropping....
The largest advantage to me is adjustability...you can run it at a 2/4 drop a 4/6 or a 5.5/7.5 drop. and if you ever intend to use your truck as a truck...you can raise it up to haul a trailer or add air to keep it from bottoming out with a heavy load in the bed. I really like a static 4/6 or 5.5/7 drop but neither would work for me. My driveway has a curb at the bottom and even our minivan scrapes unless we go out sideways and slowly....I had one truck lowered 4/6 and it drug the a-arms every time in and out of the driveway. With bags I can drive with it lower and raise it up a bit to get in and out of my driveway or other similar entrances or speed bumps/etc...

Definitely not the compressor....you don't want one anywhere near the cab....they're loud. Most mount to the frame under the bed...I prefer them to be near the rear with the tank close to them so there's less line and fittings = less $$$ and less chance for leaks.

i've been stuck in a few massive traffic jams due to guys loosin air an layin frame in the middle of rushhour on an interstate
i see alot of air equipment for sale on craigslist latly so i'm thinkin that the air fad is losing some recruits

I, too, recommend ProPerformance. I bought a majority of my air parts from them, and the quality and prices were great. Travis is a huge help. I had a static drop and went to bags, and love them. You have to decide what you want out of the vehicle. I don't think I would bag my daily driver, especially if I lived in a colder climate, but if it's a toy you should definitely go with the bags. It is a little more work and maintenance, but it is a blast to drive, and so cool to be able to 'lay it out" at the cruise ins.

Curious how low you can go with bags on a 67 c10 and keep inner fenders factory?I want air and she whats 4/6 ECE. Big debate since really her truck but always can try to push envelope right?

Why would you not bag on a daily driver or in colder climate? I've been thinking of bagging my 70 and it is a daily driver and it snows here in Colorado.

You can't lay frame with stock inner fenders, but you can go down to around a 5.5/7 drop without major mods....even lower if you c-notch the rear. . Just add a little air to drive...

5.5/7 sounds good what all needed besides c notch in rear? Thought about looking into one of way2low kit maybe switch out valves for another board member here's valve that he makes. I need to keep it simple yet super effective for her to even think idea!!! Forgot budget also! I already have the KYB's everyone is running and adjustable track bar in rear from CPP. So now to make a basic kit and find shock relocators about it right? Budget is KEY here! Brandon

cnotch in the rear and shock relocators with the track bar. ...Sounds about right....I really like dloe's valves for a basic, reliable setup. I prefer them over plastic paddle valves.

Yes dloes valve now just gotta figure out the bags etc bang for buck and convince her lol. Where would be best place to install his valves for convenience and easy of getting to them in a 67 C10?
