New Member/ New Truck
Hello everyone.
Finally was able to get registered today after trying for a week. I have been looking way back on this site and have to say this place is pretty cool. We just bought a 71 c10 factory sb today. The truck is pretty sound mechanically and drives good it's just a little rough around the edges. It's going to be driven regularly mostly by my 17 year old son and he's pretty excited to say the least. I'm not 100 percent sure how far I'm going to go on rebuilding the truck for now but I'm sure I will have plenty of questions along the way.I will try to get some pics loaded tomorrow sometime. I guess I will ask my first now. I looked in the glove box for the spid sticker and it looks like it has been painted over. I'm not sure it's under the paint but I think it may be. Is there a way to get the paint off without damaging the sticker in the process? Any help is greatly appreciated. |

Welcome! Until we see pictures, it doesn't exist... (Ha!) Just kidding, look forward to seeing the new truck - 71 swb, sounds like a great start!
I believe the clear SPID cover started in 72, but if yours is a late model year 71, it may have the cover over it - mine does. I'd try very lightly dipping (and wringing out) a micro fiber towel in some paint thinner (not stripper) and working on a corner of the spid to find out if you can clear away the paint to find out if there is a clear cover over the SPID and to see what damage you do - if none/minimal, then I'd continue. If no sticker and it seems to dissolve the SPID, stop, of course. But that is where I'd start. |

I used acetone and it worked very well. Just don't use too much, and keep it away from the paint. Good factory paint would take a lot of effort to damage with just a little acetone though.

My '69 SPID was painted over and there is no recovering it. Too bad as I am really interested in the original configuration of my truck.
