Factory Assembly Manual, Navigation

I got a Factory Assembly Instruction Manual, and I can see there is a lot of good info in there. How do you find the info that you are looking for, no index no table of content or page numbers ?

I've thumbed through page by page. I have pieces of paper with the name (windshield)etc. on top.

It's a PDF file so you're probably using Adober Reader to read it.

On the left side of the page click the "paperclip" and then the "binoculars" and then you can do a text search for whatever part you're looking for.

This is what I have been doing. I also have a Chassis Service Manual and a Haynes Repair Manual, are there any other good books to get ?

These are the two manuals I have.
I also have other books (you can see them spread out on the floor around the 9 minute mark) in this video. Seeing how other forum members dealt with situations helps out too.

It is my understanding that the Factory Assembly Manual was not designed to be a reference manual. It was used on the assembly line for assembling the vehicles, and sections in the book are in sequence with the way the vehicles were assembled on the different sections of the lines.

I purchased the CD version of the manual from here.

It has a search feature that works very well.

They also have some neat '67-'72 Chevy "T" shirts if you click on the "licensed apparel" at the bottom of that page.

You can try this link. I found it here on the forum about a year ago. It will require that you number all pages... 1064 if I recall correctly. I'm also not sure the document is complete.

I understand that this book was used on the assembly line. I was wondering if anybody took the time to make a referance chart or somthing like that. I'm very old school and a Binderyman by trade, so like paper and books. I try to get all of the books I can for the vehicles I own. Maby I will need to get me that CD version.

It is compiled in UPC order (no relation to assembly order).

So UPC 0 = Labels/literature
UPC 1 = body structure
UPC 2 = Frames
UPC 3 = Front axle
UPC 4 = Rear axle
UPC 5 = Brakes
UPC 6 = engine
UPC 7 = transmission
UPC 8 = exhaust
UPC 10 = tire/wheel
UPC 11 = front end sheet metal, radiator support
UPC 14 = bumpers

It is cumbersome, at best, to use, even for those guys that have grown up with it. The only way to navigate quickly was to create your own cheat sheet (in the pre-internet/per-computer days) or use a search feature as you guys have done.

I also have the CD version, it's easy to use, searchable and I can print out a page or two if needed. I have it on my iPad so its handy were ever i need it. Before I got the CD version I made an index in excel, it only takes about an hour and makes things a lot easier to find. I have not used the tome since I got the digital version.
