Major Issue... Help please...
So I finally got to start up my Blow through turbo charged Inline 250 today.... only to my dismay it starting blowing motor oil out the back side of the block somewhere between the tranny and the engine.... and it also would not shift into or out of gears.... and neutral was not neutral on an NP435 (4 speed on the floor) tranny.... SOOO... Long story short I now have to pull the engine and trans and try to figure out what the heck went wrong! Can this engine/trans combo be pulled without removing the front clip and without removing the high hump inside the cab and without damaging all my paint work with one guy, or am i stuck pulling the front clip...
thanks ahead of time.

Re: Major Issue... Help please...
I would separate the trans and motor, would make it alot easier by yourself

Re: Major Issue... Help please...
I would seperate them in the truck. You will have to any way once they are out. I would hate to see any damage to the paint. It looks like you have invested a lot of time to risk it.

Re: Major Issue... Help please...
So If I am separating them in the truck... wouldn't I be able to pull the clutch and flywheel assembly without pulling the motor and then I would see if an oil gallery plug came loose....

Still sux but looks like I still might have her on the road by this weekend even with a tranny swap.

Re: Major Issue... Help please...
What was your boost pressure? Sounds like you might have blown out the rear main due to too much crank case pressure

Re: Major Issue... Help please...
The most boost the engine seen in its 45 seconds of running was 3-4lbs on the gauge as I revved it to 3000rpm to get a feel for it just after I turned the engine over. The truck never even moved an inch, so no loaded boost. And the rear main seal was dry and clean when I looked up in there with the flashlight... I'm not sure where the motor oil is coming from but I'm sure I will find out soon enough.

Re: Major Issue... Help please...
Well I found the source of the oil... It was coming out around the camshaft. Now my question is, Is there supposed to be a cap on the back side of the block to cover the end of the camshaft so that it does not spill oil out? Also is a pic of the flywheel and clutch, did these get ruined in the initial start up today?

Re: Major Issue... Help please...
Yes there is a plug there. It is a press fit like a freeze plug and you should be able to knock it in with something close to the same size and a medium size hammer.
Your pressure plate and clutch disc should be OK to run, maybe a light scuff with a scotch brite pad on the pressure plate. Clean disc with brake cleaner. |

Re: Major Issue... Help please...
there should be a plug in the end where the cam shaft goes (looks like a freeze plug) as for the clutch , That I dont know seems like it was a couple of high spots on the flywheel you could always take it to a machine shop and true it up . (Tbone1964 typed a little faster then me )

Re: Major Issue... Help please...
The funny part of the flywheel is that It was balanced and machined before start up...

Re: Major Issue... Help please...
Got the plug in and now I just have to reassemble, and if this rain lets up, break in the engine

Re: Major Issue... Help please...
Oil can be cleaned out of clutch as mentioned.
How did the flywheel get burnt in two spots? May not hurt to put a straight edge and feeler gauge on flywheel. Last edited by Rufton; 05-09-2013 at 11:40 AM. |

Re: Major Issue... Help please...
All is well! Cam plug is in, took the top of the transmission off and readjusted everything, rebalanced and surfaced the flywheel. there was no oil on the clutch so I got lucky there. put it all back together, and well here is the video
