One last cylinder head question.

Tomorrow I'm planning on goin up to Summit, getting some parts for my engine build, I was going to get these heads, but now I'm second guessing myself, is there any better heads for around the same price or are these my best bet.

Re: One last cylinder head question.

There is absolutely no way to answer your question. You need to know first of all what it is you want the engine you put these cyl heads on to do. Are you going cruising, driving freeway 100 miles round trip., drag racing or a combination of all of it.

General speaking, the more air you can get in and out of a cylinder the more power it will make. There are so many variables to answer your question. What compression, what cam, what intake and exhaust, what carb and ignition system. This all plays a role in what cylinder head will work best for you. Too much cam then you need a stall converter but which one is best for the rear end gear you have. You see where this is going?

It would be easy to say "yeah dude, bolt em on and go" You need to know what you expect before you can get the proper combination of parts to accomplish what you want.

Re: One last cylinder head question.

sorry about that, Im building a 383 w/roller cam nothing to wild, hoping for comp ratio around 9.5 -10. HEI, carb'd, headers. Truck will be used as a cruiser more then anything, maybe a couple trips down the track.

Re: One last cylinder head question.

I like the aluminum ones. They have a little more exhaust runner volume. That gets the air out. If you use a flat top piston with a 64 cc chamber you are looking at close to 11:1 compression. A little much for pump gas. A 74 cc chamber might work a little better for you.

I am telling you, there is no one good answer for this. What pistons are you using? Flat, dished, domed?
